This will most likely be the final piece in my Florida Diaries series. Yes, it was a short ride, but also a good one. I hope you enjoyed.

Great angles and what a beautiful place. I think you uploaded an interlaced version though.

What is the guy talking from?
  • an "interlaced" version....are you referring to the breaking up of the image when it shows things that move faster on camera? I swear, every time I export an HD video, I make sure to check "deinterlace" but it seems to do no good. I also try playing with the data rate. This video was set to 4000 I believe. I should go higher?

The voices are from a podcast I subscribe to on iTunes called "The Hollywood Saloon." You should check it out if you're into podcasting. Very informative stuff.

    I'll check that out.

Yes thats what I was talking about. Although last night I had edited a video that did the same thing no matter what settings I did. What I had done differently was took my original HDV MT2 clips and rendered them to a Cineform AVI (it gave way better realtime preview in Vegas)and then edited the video but no mater what I did I got those same lines.

I started all over with just the original MT2's and it was fine.

Im not sure what program you edit on but see if there is a field order which I set to none and a frame blending mode which I usually set to interpolate in Sony Vegas.

I usually put my bitrate at 5mb or if it has lots of motion I do 10mb.

    Hope that helps
  • Well...it helps a little but I'm not using Vegas. I'm using Final Cut Express 4 and just exporting right from there. Maybe I should just export a self contained movie file next time and then import that into a program like VisualHub and do my compression there. I didn't even think to do that this time...hmmm...I wonder

PS - I keep getting email after email of your same comment on this video. But it's not posting. Weird.

yeah, use VisualHub... thats what I use. You can interlace from there.
  • sweet thanks Blake. Im a bastard for not doing it that way the first time

Holy monkey, I also got 68 emails from your same response.
  • Yea...I guess it's happening to some other people too. I posted this on the "bugs" forum. your emails are still coming in. Every few minutes I have to go in and delete your messeges or my mail will fill up. haha.

Great looking images! Did you color correct? The video looks really sharp with great contrast and colors!
  • I did color correct. Just used the basic color corrector in Final Cut Express 4

Well it looks really sharp man! Good work! I really need to upgrade my equipment to HD.
  • From what I can see in your photo, looks like your using an XL1, right? Still a great camera but the future is HD for sure.
  • Brian Van Peski 5 months ago
Yeah, I've only used the Xl1 on a project or two and a Sony Z-1U for a documentary (non-HD). The camera I currently own is a GL2. What did you shoot this video with?
  • A Sony HDR FX1 which I am totally in love with.

Nice work Michael. Great images and I loved the podcast infusion.
  • Thanks. Yeah, When I heard this I suddenly realized that what I was editing went along to everything they were saying. Plus it kind of goes with what I've been doing recently with my videos, just testing things out, molding a technique.

Very nice. If you ever get the chance travel from Pensacola to Appalachicola along the Gulf. Many natural areas to visit as well as some towns that have escaped major development.

  • Handy info, Mark. Thanks. I'll keep that in mind

Nice shots selections all around. Well timed to the music/ VO.
  • Thanks a bunch. Yeah I was listening to this podcast from the "hollywood saloon" and thought how what they were saying was so perfect to what I was editing. Love your tutorials by the way. You make it fun to watch while keeping it really informative. So for that I thank you! More please :)

Wow Bones, you really have blossomed. Great artistry with the close ups that lead to the surreal euphoria I feel with this piece. Your attention to lighting and setting really impress me. You are in the wrong town, film lives in L.A. unfortunately, as the people's values are next to a wild boars anus... But the technology at your disposal, and your eye and mind. Nothing could hold you back. I applaud you loudly from the rafters!!! Marvelous and astounding.

(yoda speak) So proud am I that a friend of yours I am. Good work, you've done. Uncertain is your future, yet goooood is your potential.
  • Thanks a grand J.R. I appreciate the support though I can't help but call you out on my "attention to lighting..." I know nothing of lighting to be honest :) I've used all available light for most....all of my stuff. That's one thing I really do need to learn is 3 point lighting. I DO get meticulous, however, with framing and setting.

It's a jot to have you here with us "vimeons" and I can't wait to see what you've got up your sleeve :) Cheers friend!

Nice job Michael. That Shell Station just stands out for me. And the audio track supporting it hits a strong chord with me. But you editing is real defined and sharp. You can feel the rhythm of your edits to the music. And no doubt you are truly a gifted editor. And I for one would like to see this last edition go on. It has so much potential. Cheers and much success..
