I've been missing/out of contact/busy/going through not happy times lately.

After grad school today, I decided to spend some time in the park.

Now, I'm glad I did.

This is dedicated to you. Because I care about you. But mostly, because you are human too and you mean more to me than you will ever know.

    200 MINUTES...
what if Jesus comes back first?
  • Shit, if you think that's bad when i started it last night it said 650 minutes until conversion.

I grew up, got married, had a baby, found the cure for cancer, survived world war 3, and ate every single kind of pasta in the world and this video is still not converted.

Soooo beautiful. You're mighty talented with that camera, maam. LOL.

Oh and I uploaded a vid last night and it said 340 minutes! Which, compared to your 650...sounds less insane, but still!
  • Aww thank you darling you are too kind. Yeah it's so ridiculous how long it's taken.

    it's alright though.

    Set it and forget it!

Most of the days, I'm just coming here to read/answer my message or watch the videos people shared with me. Then I'm saying to myself : "oh, someone I'm following made a video, it can't be long." And I'm falling in Vimeo's trap and I'm here for an hour. You're the trap today :), a good one, of course.
  • Rems you're so sweet. You're my trap everyday.

    :-)

Speaking of which, I'm going to hit you back in a couple minutes...

It makes me sad that youre not happy and its not like i can give advice or anything cause im way younger than you. but, i do wanna say that you definitely seem very in touch with reality. you matched the mood of that song so perfectly with this video, its amazing. I guess what I'm saying is, I'm not trying to pretend I know what youre going through right now, but either way, I do think that its better to feel and to be able to express like you do in this video than to be just plain happy. This video was moving in a subtle way. i really liked it, thanks.

I just now saw the ending (i always start comments before videos end). I'm happier now :)

As everyone else has said, this is simply beautiful. I love the last shot, with the dandelion. It made me smile. So many times we want to blow on those things (kind of like with birthday candles), but the seeds don't all release. The dandelion is too comfortable. It wants to hang on to everything it has, but once it lets go, it has fulfilled its part of life. Not that once we finish something we are allowed to wither and die, but sometimes you just have to let things go to be happy.

I think that moment of revelation was more for myself than for you.

I'm glad that you were able to take some time out and take in what was at the playground. We all needed this, even though we didn't know it.
  • I really liked what you said Ben. You are a great guy. I'm so fortunate to know amazing people like you.

Didn't really like this at first. But reading that it is dedicated changed the way I thought about it. Really like 01:53
  • Thank you for your feedback. It's alright for you to not like it, I have no problems with that. Usually when I shoot something, I make it for myself without thinking too much about what other people will think about it....if they like it, that's fine, if they don't that's alright too. I do these type of videos as a practice more for myself on how I compose shots and evaluate the environment around a particular place that I am in. Thank you for your time for watching this, I appreciate it.
  • colin.a.atkinson 2 years ago
Ah I'm glad. Although I should really put something up myself before I go offering opinions. I hope it did what you intended it to do.
  • It's quite alright. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. My only advice is...if you don't like something, you should say why you don't like it. So it can help whoever made it be better. That way it's constructive criticism. That's what I like when I post my more serious short films.

Plus, art is so subjective, chances are, someone's going to hate your work. I've come across so many emails from people telling me that my work sucked, or that I should probably give up filmmaking. (no lie). This is in regards to my more serious work, not little exercises like this. This is more like a Video log type post. Nothing too substantial. My thing is, I do what I do because I love it not because I try to impress anyone or try to make anyone believe I'm someone who I'm not. I do it because I care about the process and the collaboration, the community of filmmaking as a whole. But for every person that hates your work, there's a handful of people who really care about what you tried to do.

My intent was to take a break from my busy schedule and life and go to the park to play. So I think I accomplished that much.

    :-)

Look forward to seeing your work.

This is the first video I've seen of yours and it's stunning and beautiful, no doubt. But the quality of the post is hardly what impresses me MOST about your membership to vimeo. I began reading some of the comments people have made about your video and quickly realized that you've replied to EVERY SINGLE ONE. This is not only impressive but truly admirable. Thank you for standing out as a beautiful vimean and being a role model for what I feel this space is all about, community. I look forward to my new subscription to your posts. :)
  • Oh my god. That is such a kind thing to say. I really appreciate you taking the time to watch my video, but mostly taking the time to write such a wonderful comment. I am in this community, not only for the great quality capabilities of my uploads, but mostly for the community. The people that I've grown to meet, since I've been here for the last 4 months have been...at the very least...absolutely incredible.

People here are so loving and caring, and it goes beyond videos. You develop a deep and meaningful relationship with the people and you start communicating through messages, email, or instant messenger. Whenever any of us has problems, whether it be technical with cameras, video, editing, etc or emotional and personal, we are really supportive of one another.

I look forward to checking out some of your clips. Take care.

    And really,

    thank you very much.

    :-)

    Karen.

  • That just means I have no life.

Haha. Actually I am doing 3 of my graduate course classes online, so my email box is usually always up and alerts me when I get comments. Haha. But usually I get back to people within a couple hours.

I'm on my way out to shoot something for fun. I just wanted to retort your response. Hahha. Take care Mr. Parmer.

    i swear,
your videos are like this unexplainable...visual like poetry that no one can ever quite put into words on how beautiful they are
    but yet, everyone understands

yea that kinda didnt come out the way i wanted it to, but i think you know what i mean haha. great job!
  • That is one of the kindest things I've ever heard. I was having a conversation with someone about the film Baraka and how unbelievable I think it is because it is visual poetry. No words are necessary to the emotions that they evoke. To hear someone say something similar about my work is a HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE compliment that I feel that I'm not necessarily worthy of. But I am very very appreciative of you.

Thank you so much for being a ray of sunshine to our dark worlds.

Beautiful. I think my two favorite shots are the rack focus and the dandelion. Great stuff!

you have a good eye for details.
this is so sensitive. packed with love and a huge heart.
i love when films are the way that you want to print out every single frame and put it up your walls, you know what i mean? i notice that you use grass a lot and your grass seems to be alot greener than mine ;-)
in other words. i love this one.
  • The grass in fact THAT green here. Which is very nice. We have the rain to thank for that. However, when I shoot the grass, It isn't THAT green, I have to fix it in color correction. What do you use to edit with? I wonder if there's a way you can boost up your colors. Then the images you see become closer to what you see in real life.

I don know what you mean about printing frames and putting them on your wall..I think that's part of the appeal with working with film...when I make things on 16mm in school I have the work print and the negatives and I can string them on my window and it's so nice to see a burst of color from images I've captures. I also do that with medium format film you can see here:

    photos1.blogger.com/blogger/6022/505/1600/CIMG0016.jpg

But yeah color correction makes a huge difference in making your images appear more like what they do in real life.

    Look at this:

    data.tumblr.com/Mup89kF6U62o5tup6jVtmCo3_500.jpg

(this is in regards to this film vimeo.com/439711 and the secondary color correction that I did to it 2 months after I turned in the project)

I love the way you film all these videos! You have some kind of scratched vintage, old school thing going on. Love it! What camera do you use?
  • Aw thanks a lot Jeramy. I'm not sure I know what you mean by the scratch vintage..but the only thing I do to what I shoot is color correct it and occasionally add vignetting. I switch off between a panasonic GS320 and a dvx100A. :-) both are 3CCD Standard Def Cameras.
  • Jeramy 2 years ago
What software did you use? By the way, I'm trying my best not to sound desperate, but it is possible for you to tell me what I can do with my videos? As in what are my flaws and what you would like to see from me.
    Thanks!
  • Yeah, it just takes a lot of hours, patience, and burning eyes. I use Final Cut Pro, but you can achieve the same look with Avid, Premiere, Vegas, almost anything except for Windows Movie Maker and IMovie. haha. If you want to share a specific video with me, message me and let me know and I can give you critical feedback on any particular video you like. :-) Take care Jeramy.

i have been going through your backlog of videos (well, backlog for me since i only joined recently!) ;)

and I've been meaning to say this a few times...but kept viewing videos.

I have to stop at this one and finally write the damn comment.

the style of your films are fucking amazing. I can't put my finger on it, or figure out exactly what it is, but i love them.
  • aw damion, so kind of you to say. I can honestly say that i am truly flattered. Trust me, I have a lot of boring junk on here.

haha I have no idea what it is either. Honestly majority of these videos, unless stated otherwise (like for school or a film festival) are just arbitrary meditations of environments around me. I live in such a craphole town that I have to find things like shooting random places to keep me busy. I think the main thing is that I am trying really hard to appreciate what little I have whether it be with my surroundings, circumstances, or crappy equipment.

I don't want to rely on having a bazillion dollar camera (thought it would be nice) to get nice shots...it's totally possible with my $300 camcorder.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, that when you shoot to "feel" (wow i don't even think that made sense) and focus on the moment and the environment and not worry about what the end product will look like, you achieve something more organic that people can somehow relate to and enjoy.

I never know what my videos will turn out like until I hit the export button and watch them. They usually look grotesque when they are first captured into whatever I edit with.

Final Summation: Shoot for the moment, shoot for yourself and what you "feel."

Thanks again for your kind words.
  •
  • iamdamion 2 years ago
yeah! that's just it. that's what I meant by I can't put my finger on it. You call it "organic"...I call it "wow"! :)
