I'm sorry if it's 'uncool' to comment, but this is Amazing with a big A. I hate to be a cliché, but NYC is so good they named it twice. In the case of Marathon's though-it's so good at 1,641 frames divided by 5 seconds and that, ladies and gentleman, is one mother of a marathon. Beautiful. Thx4sharing. CUL8R.

Great little timelapse - I watched it up the road on the corner of 16th and 4th and you really captured the atmosphere nicely.

looks great, so you shot this on a 5d (not 5d markII)?
Did you animate the stills to produce a video then?

    Thanks

This was shot as individual frames with the camera tethered to my laptop. I used the timer function in Canon's Utility software. Once I had all the stills I merged them in Quicktime Pro (open image sequence) and then edited the final movie in iMovie to add fades, sound, etc.

    nice)

  • OK, let me add a constructive critic: is too fast, It's impossible to view the runners, I know that the effect is what you want but IMHO 5 seconds between each frame is too much... Anyway, don't give up and keep posting video!!

Hey Mattia. I know what you mean but I wanted the clip length to be 1 minute and the frame rate at 30fps so when you do the math, 5 second intervals end up working out. If I had done a shot every 1 second the video would have been over 5 minutes long. The next one I'm working on is a longer timelapse with more fluid motion.

Really cool.. and I was one of the runners too.. :)
  •
  • Really great idea colors and use of the tilt shift lens...the only thing I would have done different would be to take one pic every second instead of 5 seconds...

i don't like the video because the runners just pop up out of nowhere and then they disappear into nothing. i find this appear-disappear act rather unpleasant to view, since the individuals on the sidewalk do not interact with the disappearing act on the road, there is no rhythm, there is no *time-lapse-feel* in this video at all. false advertising is what it is. i did not feel to have absorbed any valuable imagery after viewing it. whatever math you try to explain this piece of crap with: yeah i hear you, your math is 100% exact, the result is just another wasted minute. this video is so ridiculous, why would anybody put this into such a prominent spot? humanity is losing valuable internet video viewing time, 6322 minutes so far, 105 hours. the result: two weeks of potential creative working time forever lost. mods please put up a sign here: WARNING: crappy clueless student experiment, just watch if you have time to waste.

Wow you're a douchebag. You don't even have videos up, so shut your mouth. At least they're doing something. This is Vimeo not youtube you flammer, go elsewhere.

I thought the colors were fantastic and quite pleasant to view. Thanks for sharing!

Please don't let any unnecessarily harsh comments prevent you from putting out more work! I think it's great!

i liked your framing and the vibrant colors; although it didn't bother me much, i can see where stan is coming from ~ i guess augusto's comment acts as a partial solution to that.

    dearest Stan Lesterage,
Maybe since you 'waisted your time' not only watching this video but also trying to write a clever comment, check out this website called YouTube. You can watch endless hours of people vomiting and getting kicked in the crotch, since this is what you're obviously used to watching. Constructive criticism is expectable, being a total dusche is not.
Cool video mdkmc, my favorite part of it is the fact that people are popping in and out.
Check out Stan's page, not only does he just bash peoples videos but he doesn't have the balls to show his face in his profile.

I think it looks pretty cool, but I'm also a sucker for a tilt-shift lens.

I think it awesome and to the guy who couldn't see the runners, thats not the point. If the man wanted to show runners he would have taken pictures. I think the points where it looks like the flow of runners is going backwards is really cool thanks for the post.

ok that was seriously amazing! the whole effect of the Marathon, you couldnt've chosen a better occassion for a timelapse. Bravo!
(but i can see why 5 seconds could be a bit too much, but stil this is awesome!)
