    That was a very good look at their family life. Was that a male that was chasing one of the young ones? They are very nimble and active birds. We actually see one or two a year here in Oregon.

    Thanks for the comment Steve.

    Honestly don't know which is the male or female, they both seem to care for their babies equally for the first few weeks, then they both seem to chase the juveniles away after a month or so with the same zeal.

    This pair had three lots of babies last year and they seem to want to chase away their own juveniles in order to care for their newest arrivals. Where the young moorhens go, once they are able to fly, is a mystery.
