3. Sycamore Eve - 2007
"Sycamore Eve is an imaginative and captivating short film about a young girl's effort to protect her planet's most sacred resource."

orchidtheatre.com

One pursuit of this film was to explore the relationship between the picture and sound. During the storyboarding phase, I began writing short piano motifs. While drafting concept art, I composed environmental soundscapes to accompany them. Because both evolved simultaneously, they were influenced by each other's ideas. My hope is that this process has created a symbiotic relationship where all visual and auditory elements are interconnected and inseparable.

    Glad you liked it.

For creating the visuals, I used:
    Maya (For 3D)
    Renderman (for 3D rendering)
    AE (for compositing and 2D)
    Photoshop (for matte-paintings)
... and a variety of all other small packages as-well.

    For the music and sound
    Access Indigo II (hardware synth)
ProTools (for sequencing and DSP, but these days working in Logic)

    Thanks

what did you use for the "bubbles", liquids and visually dynamic parts of the film?

    Nicely done, sir.

A lot of the 2D effects were done with Particular, a product of Trapcode. They make many interesting and intelligent plugins for AE.

Who did the soundtrack for this? Where can I get a copy?
  • orchidtheatre 3 months ago
Actually I composed the music as well.

You can extract the audio from the .mov using QT pro or any editing software.

A lot of hard work... Vimeo just keeps getting better and better! I thought Dorothy might have returned to Oz at the end of the piece.

    KUDOS to you!
