A color-graded video of San Mateo's creek bridge. This video was created in order to test the Kodak V1233 HD-capable 12MP digital camera for this review: freshdv.com/2008/03/kodak-v1233-12mp-and-720p-hd-camera-review.html

What'd you use for color grading?

J'aime beaucoup ta vision de toutes ces lignes parallèles et perpendiculaires...

Sorry for the French language but I wanted to express myself in my first language for this remark ;-)

    Thanks Yves, appreciated.

is there a purple spot in the middle of the image at 00:44 ? or is just my screen?
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 2 years ago
Read here for the explanation of the spot, or the review when it's out: eugenia.gnomefiles.org/2008/03/08/san-mateo-creek-bridge/

Coincidence or controlled? The shadow walker's in rhythm with the opening guitar!!?
Love your videos Eugenia. Esp the jellyfish and Monterey Bay.
But for what its worth I guess best to avoid Kodak cameras huh. Unless I'm on for a Purple Haze soundtrack. :)
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 2 years ago
Thx. Most of the scenes are controlled to go well with the music. Same thing around 1:30 of the video. I described the process of how I create videos here: eugenia.gnomefiles.org/2008/03/09/video-editing-the-magic-sauce/

Incredible editing details on the blog. Thx for sharing!

Did you like the camera? I am looking for a small digital that will also take HD. I was thinking of the Canon TX1. Just wondering. thanks
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 2 years ago
The TX1 is a better camera, but it creates huge filesizes as it records in MJPEG. The SD card will be full before you even blink. The V1253 model (a better model to this one shown here) is better for filesize and much cheaper, but it's not as good overall, so it all depends on your needs.

I must admit I didn't see the purple spot at first, so then I went back and looked again. Wow.. I couldn't stop staring at the purple spot. I think that ruins this camera for me.

    Hi Eugenia!
Thank you very much for posting this video. However I would have prefered to see a video as pure as possible or, better, even without any re-compression.

Would you mind to also post a version of the movie without color grading and with the original sound?
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 2 years ago
I keep my Vimeo pages clean to only hold "good" videos (as it serves as my demo reel), and not random stuff, so I won't upload here. However, you can certainly download the original file of the V1253 model, which is 95% the same as this V1233 model (the changes are superficial, the lens, sensor and software are exactly the same). So, download the original file from the V1253 here: osnews.com/img/19052/v1253.MOV and view the Vimeo graded video of the V1253 here: vimeo.com/435035

    Hi Eugenia!

Thank you very much for the link.
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 2 years ago
BTW, the background noise on the mic is just an airplane. I live close to the SFO airport, so it's difficult for me to capture outdoors footage without plane noises.

Nicely composed frames! You made many fine choices there Eugenia, including the color grading. The camera betrayed you but you won it over!

    Waiting for your next video!!

if i had shot this video i would have brought down the exposure everywhere by a couple of notches
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 2 years ago
With what? The camera does not have exposure control AT ALL. If you want a shot from a certain angle (and you could only be there at a certain time in the day), you could not avoid overexposure. In fact, half of my shots are thrown away exactly because they were over-exposed by the camera. What you see here are the best bits.

Impressive footage for what is being captured on essentially a still camera. Love the location, though. I'm a Bay Area native! :-)
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 2 years ago
Thanks! We should start an HV fan club in the area! :)
  • Clan McCloud plus 2 years ago
That's such a great idea. I'm sure the Bay Area/Silicon Valley is brimming with talent. Although, with work and family, I'm not sure how active a member I would be. :-P

  • I like the shot at 0:20. Great Colour grading :-) Your footage always looks so nice.

looks fucking cool, some interesting shots, good color treatment, and you gotta love HD, but like....

    3 minutes of bridge...?

    bridge?
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 2 years ago
    Sure, why not?
  •
  • xander fischer 2 years ago
wait.... you shot that on a digital camera meant for stills?

looks damn good for that kind of medium, but why?

why not just get a real camera ¿
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 2 years ago
Because I am a reviewer, I write hardware and software reviews for publications. And for the review of this HD digicam, I shot that video.

My main camera is a Canon HV20.

Impressive footage Eugenia, Can you compare this camera with the Sanyo HD1000? Ergonomics?
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 2 years ago
Thanks. There is no comparison between the two. The Sanyo HD1000 is a digi-recorder, created with video in mind. The Kodak digicams are just digicams that happen to also record 720p HD video, without any control whatsoever. It's point and shoot video, without even exposure control.

It is a gizmo that takes both HD videos and pictures, you can buy it at Amazon.com for $130 (including shipping). In video mode has electronic image stabilization, macro and normal focus and that's it. Weighs 250g, fits into your shirt pocket, you can afford to place it into a model airplane or a model rocket or underwater into a plastic bag. With 2GB card it takes 20 minutes of HD video 1280x720. I love it for its size and price. Of course HD1000 is better but it cannot do the things V1233 can because of size and price.
