Some great shots in there. Smooth tracking, great framing.

I'd say in general you could tighten it up, lose some non-action frames from several shots. Lose the virgin Mary statue because of camera shake. The baby crib has a little shake too, but it's such a good shot I'd leave it in.

If you wouldn't have mentioned you're 16 I would have assumed you were a pro.

I'm sure you did though, when you were 16.
Your videos are amazing by the way.
  • When I was 16...let's see....I was...in a punk band, skateboarded all the time, thought liberty spikes were cool, hung out with boys, wanted to study psychology? hahaha. Oy vey I feel like such a geezer...that as like 6 or 7 years ago. haha.

    you're going to make it.

seriously. :-) have a good day sir.

yup nice opening shots ... great images , did you just use hv20 or any additional bits of kit .. lenses , etc ?

i just got my hv20 ryan, i gotta fly to paris to film a music promo for young artist out there ...

what prog did you use to edit with and what color correction did you do ?

gotta learn from a pro like you :-)
  • Ryan Matthew 4 months ago
    I use an HV20, with a 35mmpro adapter with a Nikon Nikkor f/1.8D, that's it for lenses.

I then use 500watt lights you buy from home depot stores or hardware stores. With window curtains as diffuses.

Also i of course have a DIY dolly, and as for editing I use Adobe Premiere and Vegas Pro 8.
No CC. Except on the two still film shots of the chess pieces and dominoes (done i Vegas). Every other clip has no CC or Curves or anything, just raw.

All i can say is learn white balance haha
helps out alot to add different tints of 5600 and 3200. It gives it CC effects but is naturally raw.

Also the clip of the crib with the baby in the corner is a naked HV20, no lens, no CC, all raw.
Some people are amazed at the look from a naked HV20. So you can create good footage without lenses as well. I've seen some amazing footage without lenses.

And thank you so much but i am the farthest from pro, haha. Thanks though. It's nice to hear that.:)

and goodluck filming in Paris! Do post i would love to see your footage! If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. Take care and goodluck Anthony.

thanks for the info ryan, im in uk.

ive taken some test footage at a zoo here .. really nice shots , lighting was good on that day, which is not normal in uk winter lol

im just getting fcp soon , so ill edit and post here to see what you think :-)

is fcp a good choice or is premiere better ...?

thanks .. looking forward to seeing more from you

    anthony
  • Ryan Matthew 4 months ago
Yes, Final Cut Pro is a very good choice. I find FCP and Adobe Premiere pretty much equivalent but i guarantee a hardcore Mac video fan would debate with me how adobe isn't as good. But to me they are same. From interface, to CC, editing, to exporting, etc. I use both and love neither. I hate rendering every small change you do to your video. That's why Vegas is another personal choice of mine. Vegas edits and handles footage with so much ease. It's all about personal preference when it comes to your equipment though, I use each software for specific reasons. If it gets the job done, and in a comfortable way for yourself then go for it. Have you used FCP?

I highly recommend FCP though. so good choice.:)
I would love to see some of that zoo footage sometime.

    Take care Anthony.

i have tried fcp , steep learning curve , but lots of potential.

soon as fcp arrives and ive learned the basics, i'll post the zoo :-)

looks amazing on my 40" 1080p tv ...

but thats probably the hv20 more than my creative gift lol.

willl let you know when its up

looking forward to seeing more from you

    see ya

    awesome job, my friend! :]
gotta ask, if its the hv20...how come alot of other ppl post stuff they shot with the same camera, but id doesnt look like that at all?
is it the adapter u used, that makes the whole difference? [besides the talent..of course :]
    what adapter was it btw?
  • Ryan Matthew 9 days ago
    Thanks man,
and yeah it's the adapter your seeing. Alot of this demo reel doesn't have the adapter though. Like the shot of the virgin mary, time lapse of cars, baby crib, chess & dominoe pieces, the guy walking at night, the girl holding the mandolin, and i think that's it. But yeah, it's the shallow depth that looks different.

And the adapter i use is a Twoneil 35mm Pro.:)
  •
  • iwoud 9 days ago
did u use adapter like M2 with Nikon Lens?
  • Ryan Matthew 9 days ago
I use a 35mm adapter that does similiar things but not the M2. I use a DIY Twoenil 35mm Pro.But i do use Nikon lenses.:)

  • how well does your computer transfer video from your mini dv?? I have a Canon HV30. MY computer is a lil outdated since i got it in 2002. It's a Dell Dimension 4600. I got Sony Vegas Platinum 8 for my comp and its requirements fit my computer..only problem I have is gettin video onto my computer. Has alot of hiccups/and/or freezes when I try to capture footage..real frustrating when your trying to edit video especially how Vegas is soo easy to edit with. I have a feeling its hardware problems..
  • Ryan Matthew 9 days ago
I think it may be hardware problems. How fast is your processor?
My laptop runs fast enough to edit with ease and no issues. I edit on a laptop. A HP Pavilian DV2000,with 4gb ram, 2.1 ghz AMD, with 64bit Vista.
My laptop doesn't hesitate one bit at all. So it may be your computer. I wish the best of luck to you.
