I didn't know you could shoot WITHOUT the adapter! =)

Awesome short, I had only seen some of the shots you first posted awhile ago on DVi. Came together real nice.

Are these colours are natural? To me it looks over saturated, I am not sure I maybe wrong!

Amazing. This is some of the sharpest HD footage i've seen on vimeo. Did you apply any sharpening filters, or is that clean? Either way the quality of the video is stunning... very curious what your rendering details were?

But yeah, looks really great. Kudos.

Phillip, I must say your stuff was made for vimeo (or perhaps vice-versa). It looks SO good on here.
  •
  • Philip Bloom 7 months ago
thanks guys. None of it is sharpened. quite opposite. the detail on the adaptor free footage had detailed dialed down to -3 to match the Letus footage with detail turned off.

All graded with magic bullet, saturation, blacks etc are all subjective. I messed around until I got the look I liked.

I am not editing the final film, so I have no idea what look the director will go for with this.

Am very impressed with Vimeo, such great quality video.

philip...im wondering how come you color grade in magic bullet looks instead of Final cut's COLOR?

    any advantages or what?
  •
  • Philip Bloom 7 months ago
also, this was shot in 5 hours. We had next to no budget. The explosions were one take so we just had to go for it. A lot of fun though! We had 60 pages of shots to do. We managed about 45 I think in the end.

Brilliant.. I really like what you've done with the colours.

I'm guessing the faster shutter speed probably makes it look a bit sharper also.
  •
  • Philip Bloom 7 months ago
    yes a little.

The way it's shot and the colours give a little "Save privat
    Ryan" thing to the film,

    Really nice done!

    Lovely work!
Why did u choose the Sony rather than a Panasonic hvx 200?
  •
  • Philip Bloom 7 months ago
sold my panasonic for the ex1 for many many reasons!

All my lenses are listed in my blog on my website philipbloom.net

You did an awesome job with this (like most of your work I have seen). You have to dig these trenches yourself?
  • Philip Bloom 7 months ago
Thanks. The trenches were there already. Most of the extras were recreationists. Not sure that is the right word or even a word!

Looks really good, did you shoot it at different speeds in camera, or speed it up / slowed it down in post?
  • Philip Bloom 7 months ago
i shot at different speeds in overcrank mode

Great cinematography. The hue and value are exceptional. Excellent soundtrack.

Just curious. When and why did you shoot some of it without the letus? Was it for the wides or to use a higher shutter speed?
  • Philip Bloom 7 months ago
so i could get the high shutter speed look. You cant do that with a letus

The color and movement is wonderful. I just want to know if we can pow wow a little bit about your settings in Magic Bullet. I have a film at vimeo.com/755082 which has a short scene involving WWI, and the look you've achieved is almost exactly what I'm looking for (with a little less brown).

Need to look back at my edit to have a look.

This is amazing, I like the sense of place with the crystal clear shots. How did you get the pyrotechnics? This is what i want to get into when i move to london, Im already taking a Film ND course with 3 a levels.. should i go onto uni & film school? Hope you can reply.
  • Philip Bloom 6 months ago
Hi James. I didn't but I guess it would probably help. I went in a long more complicated route. The pyro was done by specialists who were hired in by the director.
