One of the coolest things I have ever seen, is watching that go into the clouds. Wonderful.

That was one of the coolest things I have seen in my life. Thank you so much for sharing this. Did you plan on being there for the launch or was it pure luck and timing?

Seen it on NASA TV Live, but had this had better manual focus, it'd be perfect.

Other than the focus being off, it's the perfect perspective of the launch.

Dude I was totally, there off of the Causeway on 528!
It was a spectacular night launch but I wish the cloud cover hadn't been so low, because it was over in like 15 seconds.

The detail of the bird flying by at 1:25 is great. Such a peaceful contrast.

Such simple things that we've seen over an over look so amazing when seen for the first time in HD.

I got chills when at the end when it went through the clouds, amazing. I think the bell was the best part.

Powerful stuff. A "technological event" viewed as some kind of 21st century ritual. Congrats.

Great Catch!! About 20 years ago we booked a tour at the cape that coincided with a launch date and time. (Just a satellite launch- not the shuttle.) Back then, such a tour would end by taking you to the press bleachers - This was the closest spectator observation area allowed. It was a clear blue sky. Totally awesome experience watching the rocket climb - and much faster than I expected. And then just standing there in the crowd looking at this giant pillar of smoke widen and go out of sight.

    Otherworldly...

The bell is so eerie. And the smoke trail as it enters the clouds is so crisp - incredible video.

I have some photos from the event (my grandma works as an higher-up Secretary at NASA). Perhaps I should upload them, they're pretty good.

One of the most amazing videos i've seen. The Video alone is pretty extraordinary, but the tolling bell really makes it surreal.

great video! a few years ago i was in jacksonville and happened to catch a night launch from the beach, and even that far north it lit up the entire sky.

the day was pretty crappy until then too, we got our car stuck driving on the beach and couldn't get ahold of anyone to come pull us out, not even AAA would come out on the beach. finally, after we'd ruined some textbooks and a skateboard in the stupid hope they'd give a little bit of traction to get going, and after the sun had gone down and it had started to get cold, some guys in a big truck pulled us out using some strong dog leashes cause that was all we could find. we get back to the entrance of the beach and all these cars are parked facing the water, and we find out there's a shuttle launch in like 30 seconds. that made up for it.

MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ONCE!! JUST ONCE IN PERSON IS ALL I ASK!!!!!!

So what WAS with the bell anyway? do they ring it for launches? Also, I couldn't hear the rockets... were they audible... low, low, low rumble I would guess, right? THANK YOU FOR THAT!!!!!!!!!

If anyone has any sort of expertise in this area, can you check out my flickr page? Its of a rocketr taking off over Belfast NI and wasnt reported anywhere.

I'd love to know what it it. If you look at the last pic zoomed in, it has three smoke plumes at the bottom of a stubby looking craft!
