A music video of surf footage I shot at Teahupoo in Tahiti, French Polynesia. (pronounced cho-poo) It was shot on Nov 2, 2007. The music is Remember (cinematrik rework) by Hisboyelroy, vocals by Fort Minor. his-boy-elroy.com/

THIS FILE IS BIG, GIVE IT SOME TIME TO LOAD.

From Surfline:

Teahupo'o is a world-renowned surfing location off the south-east of the island of Tahiti, French Polynesia, southern Pacific Ocean. This isn't your father's perfect wave, and unless seeing your next birthday doesn't rank on your list of priorities, it isn't yours either. Tahiti's Teahupoo is essentially a glorified closeout -- a hideous, deadly barrel promising a heap of trouble for even the most capable of surfers. In recent years, professional contests and high-profile tow-ins have bombarded us with images of their seemingly flawless barrels, but no other surf spot extracts a higher toll than Teahupoo, the heaviest wave in the world.

On August 17, 2000 Laird Hamilton is credited with surfing the heaviest wave ever ridden, documented in the film Riding Giants.

Ya the vocals are Fort Minor but the music is Hisboyelroy. Fort Minor released the vocals for this song as Creative Commons and Hisboyelroy remixed it.

that wave is insane. Is that the one that Laird rocked for the first time?
  • Jon Rawlinson plus 2 years ago
Ya this is the same location Laird rode the heaviest wave which was in Riding Giants. We saw Laird that day but unfortunately we didnt get to see him surf.

Very excellent, as your stuff always is. For some reason, makes me think of the sand sledding... was that Dubai?

And what camera did you use to shoot this?
  • Jon Rawlinson plus 2 years ago
    Its a Sony HVRV1U. Cheers!

nice work! Teahupoo can be hard to shoot, Can you remember if you adjusted your shutter speed to compensate?
  • Jon Rawlinson plus 2 years ago
Actually I went full auto. It is difficult to shoot because of the constant motion but also the surfer is coming at you so fast!

Sick video man. I would love to sit on the shoulder at Teahupoo and and just drool! It would be hard to only shoot video without surfing...

Your next mission is to shoot when the ASP tour hits Teahupoo. I would love to see some raw footage of Slater, the Irons, and FL boys like the Hobgoods.

    Thanks for sharing!

Great video, was enjoying to watch. As a smaller wave (2-5 foot) surfer, it is really enjoyable to see the bigger waves.
