I'm knitting Jarrett, a pattern by Kim Hargreaves published in Rowan's Vintage Knits. I thought I'd give some weekly updates on its progress. Hopefully I can finish before summer gets here.

    Oh man, that sucks!

Good luck getting it right next time.

Thanks. I'm working out how to make it bigger right now. At least it gave me time to practice more, right?

Well it's good that you're staying positive.

My mum is a master knitter, and she tells me the sure fire way of getting bigger stitches is simply to use bigger needles!

I used to knit a bit too (nothing fancy just scarves) and I also had the problem of my stitches being too small. I think I was pulling the wool too hard/had too much tension. For that my mum recommended wrapping the wool around a finger or two, and always keeping your hands on the needles.

Thanks for the tips. Last night I was trying to decide what to do. I was considering using needles the next size up, but I really liked the denser gauge. I'm going to try adjusting the number of stitches and rows so that I get the right dimensions with the tighter stitches. If I can't get that, then I'll try the larger needles.

oh man... that's so painful! you're more diligent than i am. i would have said "f it!"

It was pretty disheartening. If I don't get to wear it this season, I will have plenty of autumns and winters in the future (assuming I don't get knocked-off in the near future).

  • Wow this is awesome! I love progress reports! You are brave for this. I could never do this. I don't have the discipline

    Oh, I'm sure you do.

btw, I keep meaning to take a picture of the sample design I made up for a scarf. It was going to be circles, but with how the knit and purls turned out, they look like little spirals. Or something.
  • you're such a crafty doctor.

shit, i dont know anything about that but you really have to do all this again? dontcha think you can fake it or something? glue some parts onto the sides or something. well, crossing my fingers for you, really. what a project :)
  • Ben Millett 7 months ago
I did contemplate grafting extra stitches on the sides, but figured it would be easier to just redo it. Although, some hot glue is a requirement for almost all projects, right?

awwww.....I'm sorry but I did chuckle to myself when you said you had to undo all the stitches....so unfair…..but still, at least you know where you went wrong and I’m sure you’ll not do it again…I’ve never knitted myself so I can’t really say that much – apart from that I would imagine you would need a lot of patience to see the project through. Keep going…I’d like to see the end result…

Noooo! Don't un-do the sweater! Crash-dieting is the answer there lol.
