impressive, how long was the original footage?
  • Emily Qualey plus 2 years ago
It took a week to prepare and two full days for the move from one location to another. The spinning of the house took another part of a day.

My old boss/friend actually took the pictures and I wittled this down from over 20,000 images. YIKES.

I took out most of the "boring" parts.

OMG, that is some huge pile of work
and it is even better knowing about this background info.

wow! How long did that take with the moving of the house and how often did you have to rechange your batteries for that??? and I really like the music you have choosen for it.
I was thinking of doing something like that with a house down the road but with that one they have cut it in half as it going for a 4 hour trip up the road to a different area.
But i couldn't do it as well as you have. Great stuff!

House moving is great fun to be a part of. I hope you go watch at least part of it.

  • Emily Qualey plus 2 years ago

    Cool!

Isn't it easier to put those things where they belong the first time around?
  • Emily Qualey plus 2 years ago
Oh sure. But this is more fun.

    What necessitated the move?
  • Emily Qualey plus 2 years ago

    This is awesome E.
Any bridge footage? I seem to remember you reporting of a bridge this past summer....
  • Emily Qualey plus 2 years ago
the bridge thing ended up being much less exciting (and difficult to document) than it seemed at the time. obviously, had the bridge collapsed... there would have been some drama. but all went well.

Kind of weird to hope for "tragedy" in that case......

Amazing!! I would be afraid of things getting sloshed around inside the house...

Very nice shot composition! Really cool subject matter, too! How far did the house (as one big piece) travel? Was it pre-assembled from sections down the road? I wonder where the pre-fab factory is? Was the TL done in camera? Great stuff! Joe V

This house was moved from it's over hundred year old foundation- where the film begins- and moved about a half mile on the same lot, on a road built for that very purpose and then carefully placed on a new foundation. Tho over the bridge was on a section of the permanent drive way.

The original house had a kitchen/servant quarters ell that was split off and remains at the old site. But this building in the film was never cut or split apart in any way since it never had to travel over public road ways. A stack of fire wood sat undisturbed on the front porch for the entire trip.

The movers used 12 dollies with 4 huge tires each run off hydraulics. They also could use the hydraulics to keep the building partially level. Four of them were "driveable". One fellow did that with a remote as one would for toy remote cars.

There were 4 or 5 different moving crews that took responsibility for different aspects of the move. They worked together or passed the "baton" with the professionalism and harmony of a symphonic orchestra. But they sweat more... It was a brilliantly executed project.

I also observed this project for 3 or 4 days is how I know....
