MIDDLE AGE! hahahaha. You guys zeroed in on one of my favorite things about my first trip to Europe (which was to Germany) and every one since -- it's the little differences, like a toilet lever, or mayonnaise in a toothpaste tube --that remind you you're somewhere else and it's thrilling. That little bit of defamiliarization.

But why is the food so much better? That kills me, too.

I have been to a lot of hotels in the US, but my impression always has been, they try to put up some kind of hollywood, but don't even dare to look behind the set!
