3 of 3 Canon HV20 camera tests

Followed Timothy down a derelict street. Many of the stores and shops have long since closed. There was a sense of stifling...of nothingness I felt that day when we shot this.

nice.is this purely the hv20,or are you using a 35mm adaptor? if not how did you achieve the first shot?

It's pure HV20. This footage was from the same day I bought the camera. The first shot was an abandoned hairdressing salon and I noticed several mannequin heads on display. So, I shot a few minutes of each mannequin head. I then looked up and noticed my friend Timothy was just standing there and staring at the mannequin heads, so I grabbed a shot of him looking.

The whole process was very quiet and introspective. Nothing planned, I don't think I said more than ten words to Timothy that day. Which is the way I prefer doing things.

it was more the shot of the railings, the dof seems very shallow? do you use a lot of colour correction? love the look you are getting, very david fincher!,especially that hallway shot...

That's the natural DOF of the HV20. Especially when you zoom all the way in. I spent some time in FCP to tweak it to get the colours I like. It was all a very organic process.

Do you ever feel like you missed an angle or shot long after the fact?

    What are you talking about?

I can't reword the question without it being exactly the same.

Are you happy with what you've done or do you have an itch to go back and get different angles? Does losing a shot keep you up at night?

    You know, questions...

    Fl!nt

Just a question about your artistic opinion.

    Opinion looks like Onion. LAWLZ!

These series of videos are perfect, there isn't anything wrong in any way that I could see or want to see. I really want that camera now. Thing is I don't want to buy the codec from apple or use FFmpegx or whatever to convert it. It instead turns from nice large HD video to 500x200 or something incredibly 20 times smaller than it should be. And I don't have money.

Why not use SUPER? It's a free program that'll encode anything into anything using any codec.

Cool, I'll have to check that out. Thanks.

"Are you happy with what you've done or do you have an itch to go back and get different angles? Does losing a shot keep you up at night?"

Not really. Once something is complete, you basically abandon it and move on to the next thing.

You commit whatever work you do to the annals of history and hope time will tell whether it's a good piece of work or not.

Seldom do I kick myself for not 'shooting something better' because usually all the things I do I remember what I was facing at the time I shot it.

I'll be honest: Until I get to watch the raw footage on my computer, I haven't a clue whether or not a shot is good or not. Some shots I thought were crap turned out to be amazing later.

I do appreciate the comments and above all: SHOOT SOMETHING!
