Awesome. Those shots are extremly beautiful and well composed. This could very well be the intro in a feature. it was making me think of my movie i plan on filming once i purchase the HV20 for myself. Great!

nice imagery, keep up the good work ;)

PS. That HV20 camcorder is crazy! Best buy for the buck! With the addition of the letus, this setup is mindblowing.
I'm saving up for a letus myself, to use on my xha1 ;)
  • Charles Lowthian 4 months ago
haha are you teasing me with your xha1? =)
  • Kjewbee 4 months ago

    Very nice.

How much noise does the Letus Mini make? When I tried building a DIY you could hear it standing several feet away.
  • Charles Lowthian 4 months ago
well i cannot hear it from several feet away, but indoors it would probably be picked up by the internal mic or a stereo mic attached directly to the camera, much like the tape head of the camera can be picked up (that level). however a shotgun mic attached shouldn't pick it up though. if that helps :)

i was wondering what you thought of my zoom lenses that i might purchase : tamron 17-35 f2.8 and vivitar 70-150 f3.5. i was wondering if you had any ideas for a zoom lens to fill in the 35-70 gap range or if there any alternatives to the zoom lenses i choose? i would greatly appreciate the help!
  • Charles Lowthian 4 months ago
i got the nikkor 70-200mm F2.8 and shortly after, the 28-70 F2.8 a while ago. at the time i thought it would cover the focal range i require, however in retrospect i regret not choosing the 17-35mm F2.8 over the 28-70 as the angle of view is so much more significant in the 17-35 range, and noticeable in terms of perspective.
so with that expressed, i wouldn't get a zoom in between. instead perhaps a prime (eg: 50mm 1.8). i assume this is also for adapter/video use? if so, manual nikons sell for so cheap on ebay these days. just make sure it's in good condition =)

    Great stuff!
How do you like the Letus?
    I want to get one...
  • Charles Lowthian 4 months ago
I love the mini35 with the hv20. It allows me to get what I want without having a huge camera (crowd pleaser lol) making the portability and subtlety excellent. Smaller is sometimes better :D especially when you don't want to draw attention (or be disturbed) whilst shooting... though it does still turn a lot of heads, must be it's cuteness =)

how does the letus perform at f-stops more than 2.8?
  • Charles Lowthian 4 months ago
I haven't really shot closed with it yet. Primarily because I want the bokeh from max aperture (ie: F2.8/F1.8). I will be doing a short that will require more depth soon, so I guess we'll see :)

Really loved the footage. It is so artistic. Did you do any color correction? It looks like those fern leaves are greener than life! :-)
  • Charles Lowthian 3 months ago
thankyou :) actually no color correction. i only pushed the shot which is the vimeo thumbnail (00:38). all else was not altered in post. after filming, i thought i would saturate the greens and make it vivid, but when i captured it, it was green enough and so i did not want to alter it's natural color =)
  • Clan McCloud 3 months ago
Wow! I'm suprised. That green is just so...how can I say it? GREEN! Gotta love the capabilities of Canon HV Series. I recently picked up the HV30 and love it.
