The sad fact is that there are programs and people, like myself, that do intervene with children and teenagers who suffer from mental illness. However, the work is often undone at home and medication is ill managed. Unfortunately, there are not enough programs available that keep the mentally ill out of hospitals and off the streets. It is great that there are people who are willing to step in and help this population. Maybe in the future we will finally see an improvement in the system.
