On my walk yesterday I grabbed some random shots with the Kodak V1233 HD digicam. Because the camera is not really that worthwhile, I color graded the shots aggressively using four different commercial Vegas plugins: NewBlue Metallic MSP, Magic Bullet Look Suite, Pixelan CE BlurPro, Pixelan CE Posterwise, and Vegas' own "Brightness & Contrast" and "Color Corrector".

If this Vimeo Flash version is choppy for you, download the original MP4 file from the sidebar.

Your videos and general interests remind me so much of Anne Cutler - a photoblogger:

    geckonia.com

You should look her up :) I'm sure the two of you would have a lot of things in common. She's in the neighbourhood...

Very nice. I like how even though you say the camera is not that great, your still able to apply some neat effects and make the video amazing.

I really loved the "aggresive" color grading. The tree at 0:18....stunning and I love the Georgia O'Keeffe like cyclamen at the end.

why don't you compress it at a quicktime file?
    or was it the kodak?

You should of used your HV20. :]
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 2 years ago
MP4 is much more compatible with devices than .MOV quicktime is (e.g. xbox360, Sony PS3). Besides, Quicktime can playback MP4 just fine, while the opposite is not true.

As for using the HV20, I use a multitude of cameras usually. This Kodak camera does not have manual controls so I see it as a challenge trying to get good footage out of a bad camera.

Hehe, is that because of what I said about your music piece not being fitting on your video yesterday? Well, feel free to not like it.

How was this video encoded? I've been using your method in the tutorial for the PS3/XBOX360, but I don't achieve a very sharp end result. I have Sony Vegas MS Platinum 8.0d.

Please shoot me an email at patrick.ferree@gmail.com if you're using a different method rather than the one found in your "From DV/HDV/AVCHD to PS3/Xbox360/AppleTV" post.

I should mention that I have an HV10, so my question would be how you encode your videos when shooting with your HV20/30...if you do anything different from your tutorial mentioned above. thanks!

Your videos look fine btw. As long as you use the right project properties template and you follow the tutorial, you are good to go. My videos look different because I color grade.
  • Patrick Ferree 2 years ago
Yes, I need to learn to color grade. currently I simply run the Vegas Color Corrector template "Studio RGB to Computer RGB" and call it a day.

I did notice that many of your videos are in .mp4 containers. Are those created using the ffmpeg method?
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 2 years ago
No, as I said on my email to you, I use Vegas Pro. Vegas Pro has support for MP4 containers and h.264. This is why I wrote the tutorial for Platinum users like yourself. Alternatively, instead of using ffmpeg, you can simply download "SUPER" to achieve the same thing.

    i don't like because it's no natural.
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 2 years ago
That was the point, to not look natural, because the natural look out of this camera that has no manual controls, sucks.

I think that your experimentation has paid off here.

For a camera that you consider is "not really that worthwhile", you have certainly made good use of its output here.

Incidentally, many thanks for the rendering for Vimeo tips which I found very informative.

I will have to have a go at this style of presentation.
