Don't get me wrong... I am a full blown "Apple fan boy" - to coin a phrase often heard on the Interwebs. I love all things Apple - for real. But why? Why do you do this to me?

Welcome to my impromptu rant about iDisk and the Finder in OS X (Leopard). 

Last night at 9PM it was still going... I had to force quit Finder and the file is borked on iDisk. All that for nothing... ridiculous.

Here's a tip: drop.io You can go pro and move very large files. Also, pando.com works well too!
  • Eric Anderson 7 months ago
Thanks Stephen! Yeah, new about drop.io but haven't tried it yet - I guess I will have to - I paid for .Mac so I keep trying to use it (oof).

Thanks Khoren - I like to make people laugh... maybe that's why Karen thinks I am a cat. Wait, that doesn't make sense.

My cat makes me laugh sometimes, so it kinda makes sense. Well, when I say kinda...I mean barely. But still...you DO have an awesome voice.

LOL so you wait 8 hours on some stupid 'closing' message?!! My patience for this kind of shit is 10 seconds *max*
  • Eric Anderson 6 months ago
You're right... 8 hours is stupid long.

I have seen this so many times... this particular exercise was an experiment... to see if it would ever stop. I figured 8 hours is mooooore than enough time - it was at that point I decided a video must be made.

It is somewhat confusing. What it is actually doing when it says 'closing the file' is uploading the file. It has this quirk with remote volumes via webdav(iDisk uses webdav). Where it will act as if it can copy 3GB or some arbitrary large file in a split second, but needs the usual time to actually put the file on the server. You will just simply have to wait. And depending on the upstream of your bandwith 2.33 GB can take a long long time.

I know about the quirk... that's my beef. I have FIOS broadband (way fast) and Transmit handled the transfer no problem. Sure it took some time, but the progress meter worked and the file transferred.

I just feel like the .Mac I pay for should work with the Finder that Apple wants me to use for the interface. Doesn't seem unreasonable.

But, I am not bitter :)

I get what your going at. It always gets me going as well. I agree Apple should FTFF fix the f•cking finder.

I tend to use Forklift for almost everything 'files' I do.
  • Eric Anderson 6 months ago
FTFF... nice. I am going to use that.

    macs are dumb

Allow me to correct your retort. Macs are amazing, .Mac is dumb. Let that be the end of any Mac bashing.
