We had our share of fuckuppery too. I just didn't want to make the place look too scary.
Ours was a band called Oppenheimer, with "This is Not a Test" -the opening track from their self-titled CD
I have heard Coldplay, but not that song, thanks again!
I'm not sure what I'd blame the relatively smallish attendance on, but it may have something to do with the publicity of the event. I only read about it on the Something Awful forums, and no other locals that I talked to after the event had known about it.
I, too, did not hear about this, and I read LA Weekly AND the Downtown News. Way coool
