Do you mind if I ask which school you go to? Is it a film school?
  • I go to graduate school at the Academy of Art University in SF.

If you take your 16mm or 8mm film to costco they can put it on a DVD for you.

    that's probably the cheapest.

There's other places where you can get stuff digitized.

You can develop 16mm at Costco? That's crazy :)
  • I'm not too sure about developing but i know for sure they can transfer it. could be both.

Let's just make a giant room to do our own processing.

Costco puts film on DVD? OMG I have to find a Costco near Manhattan lol. OK this was sweet for a class assignment. I bet you got an A on it, if not you should have.

Nice one, short and straight to the point! A great way to tell a story. Or was it more a case of only having one minute's worth of film to work with?
  • Haha actually the assignment was to make a 30 second video that told a story with 5 shots.

I'm a film hog and ended up filmming more than 30 seconds. haha.

Just a silly little in class assignment.

    :-)
  • Glenn (avene.org) 2 years ago
Oh well, at least you learnt how to make a film go over budget ;)
  • I eat film like it's candy.

i almost forgot to tagg it with that but then i remembered!
  • mike ambs ☂ plus 2 years ago
Yea, I really liked the pan...

And sorry to hear your boyfriends have been such dicks :(
  • It's alright. I'm not angry at any of them...I guess you do what you need to do. I'm still hopeful. There are plenty of quality people in this world :-)

For now, I'm dating video/film...he never cheats on me. Only sometimes makes mistakes, but we like to cuddle. haha

That would be a pretty epic crane shot.

    very short. but good story

the last 3-7 seconds are the best

Story: Cheating bastard. Oh wait, just like all my ex boyfriends.

    ouch.
  • Haha...It's okay i'm not that bitter towards them all. I'm friends with all my ex boyfriends...but I think it's mostly cause I'm awesome and I don't hold grudges.

They should learn not to date in such a public place :p

I liked the movie, short, simple and sweet. The music has (I don't know the correct technical term) a narrow dynamic range, like an old record, which gave the movie an old silent film feeling, I don't know if you meant that or not.
  • Aww thanks Moayad. That was some great feedback! 16mm has that ability to make things look more awesome than they actually are. hahah

we should have done 100 Grim Peepers all in camera edits.
did you have to plan out shots in the snow?
  • I wish I shot the entire thing with a pentax point and shoot camera.

    Karen!

I want a sequel. It must involve a castration, and robot monkeys.

    Or robot genitalia.
  • I'll try to figure those into my next assignment.

haha just kidding i think the next one for next week is a beverage commercial.

I am still wondering if you can get 16mm developed at costco? That is unbelievable.
  • not sure about the development, i know you can get it digitally transferred...but i dont know about getting it processed there.

    best bet is probably kodak
but it costs about as much as an arm and a leg.

I love seeing the product of a set restrictions. It can lead to great work. Just like this. Nice.

The music is great for the piece: simple, and Moayad Hassan's comment, I think is spot on, that the tone and texture of the piece works great with the tone and texture of the film.
  • Aww thanks a lot Daniel. Your feedback is greatly appreciated!

    Take care!

Yeah this was nice, to contradict your little stack of followers here I don't think the music fits all that perfectly. I've seen your b/w stuff and I seriously think you should consider some dialogue, your films are great but I think you should do some dialogue. Anyway, just an opinion.

On the stock, Double-X is pretty old and grainy innit? I've heard people hating on it pretty vehemently.
  • The 16mm I've done isn't sound sync so creating dialog for it would be difficult. I have some films that have dialog (they are hidden in the recesses of my 100+ videos), but not many because most of my films on here are just simple fun videos I do on my own. Trying to handle cinematography and sound is somewhat tedious without a crew, or at least one other person to hold a boom mic. But I completely agree with you. I'm also just learning sound design and audio so hopefully I'll be able to incorporate that more into my projects.

Keep in mind that I'm no pro and most of my videos are simple exercises in composition and experimentation, just for fun and trying to learn.

Grain doesn't bother me too much.

Thanks for the feedback Hampus! :-)
