This is my first movie in 35 mm film (10 min). The idea of creating a documentary trilogy of the life of Highlanders was born at that moment in Ossetia. It has been fully implemented only in 2007, with output of films about shamans and herder Victor.
Consistency of the trilogy is:
film 1 - "Cheese" (2003)
film 2 - "Behind the Black mountains" (2007) vimeo.com/720510
film 3 - "Ursdon: the territory of loneliness" /
or "Behind the White Mountains" (2007) vimeo.com/718765

Very nicely done. The storyline was well portrayed and I could understand the meaning of the film even without understanding the language. I was sad she couldn't sell her goat cheeses at the market.

Joe, she actually did sell her cheese. The women at the market said at last: "Alright, we'll take it." The cheeses at the end in the same buckets are new ones that she says she is going to take there again tomorrow.

I fully agree with the previous comments. Interesting. Beautiful.

According to Shatlarina, documentary cinema is not shown in Russia.

Was this film broadcast in Russia, or elsewhere?
  • Mariya Kozlova 2 years ago
    Dear Peter!
Thanks big! This film showed on several film festivals, but anywhere it is more. We in Russia do not have opportunity to show our films.
  •
  • 2MAKEMOVIES 2 years ago
You should try Dutch television. There's a market over here for foreign movies made by women (I'm not joking, nowadays the main criteria for national broadcast are: foreign film, female maker, preferably young).
  • Mariya Kozlova 1 year ago
    Dear Peter,
I have tried to find it a film festival, but at me nothing has turned out (((
  • 2MAKEMOVIES 1 year ago
    Sorry to hear that, Mariya.

Keep in mind that an important difference exists between festivals and broadcasters. Their criteria for acceptance differ a lot.

IMO your movie might be more adequate for broadcasting than for (often specialized) film festivals.

We all know that luck is an important factor too. You must know the right people and have a good story to tell them. So: start networking, try to visit the decision makers personally and ............ never give up.

    Good luck.

    Peter

Interesting. You should try SBS and ABC in Australia. Both are state owned. ABC have a programme shown late at night (can't remember which night) called "Rage" showcasing short films from all round the world.
    SBS is a multicultural channel.
  • Mariya Kozlova 1 year ago
Unfortunately, the rights to film belong not to me, and studio ((Therefore I cannot conduct any negotiations. But to Ossetia about it has informed. So, thanks for advice))

Mariya - wonderful, wonderful story telling! Fantastic setting, fantastic people. In a world so far away from mine here in the US, you reminded me of our humanity and I hope I don't sound pretentious. Our lives, work, needs are really the same everywhere. They just vary with our surroundings. I really loved this - thank you!

Mariya, this is gorgeous work! It has shows such wonderful craftsmanship and is so unique; you call it a documentary and yet it has all the earmarks of a full-blown narrative feature (visual storytelling, great cinematography, etc.) I'll most certainly be watching the other two parts as well.

    чудесный

its a very very good film Mariya. its remembered me to my childhood. me and my family lived by years on mountains. this moments of your film made me so sensual.

but it really upset to not to show your film in festivals. i watched other your films. you may be a profeesional director. i suggest you to write a letter or message to alexandr sokurov. i met and talked with sokurov in turkey. and im think they may help you. ohterwise you can get in touch with turkish film festival organisators. if you want you can send an email to this offical adress: film.fest@iksv.org

we are waiting your other good films. sincerely.

I with pleasure shall take part in your festival - but how it to make? And Sokurov to meet for me - dream!
  • kahve 1 year ago
i met sokurov in bogazici university in istanbul. he came for istanbul film festival and he give us a cinema lesson. he give us moral and technical supports too. and i think at a point, he may help you to makes your carrier up.
about festival, i am not to much information about joining festival. but if you write a message to them, they will reply your request. and if they accept your films. probably they will show your films among hundreds of other documentaries. and i guess you have a big luck :)

Hi Mariya, when I said "I was there" it was a figure of speech, not literally. You - through your images brought me to be there, I became part of it, and felt it as if I was there...
