what is the magic trick behind a shoot like this? i've always wondered how to do overlays without showing transparencies..like some gondry stuff..i assume the camera movement was added in post?
...it seems possible that software could be able to isolate the moving parts in the frame and make the static backgrounds transparent. Is it something like that?
Sorry for not answering sooner. This was shot on a tripod in HD. I then traced around the character frame-by-frame. The video was then cropped to standard def, and the crop was animated to shake around a bit, so that it looked like the camera was hand held.
Took around 2 weeks, and was my first ever project working with live action video.
Great rotoscoping and masking Jason. The soundtrack is so well done that it sounds as a continous piece of music enhancing the whole video. The idea of cropping makes it even more real. Amazingly well done, considering it was a first life action video project.
A 'like' :)
Just found your work off the back of the ever-influencing FormFiftyFive site - only watched a couple of your vids so far and just had to comment - Brilliant work James well done, keep it up.

Smart workflow.
the only flaw was the camera movement was too unnatural (in my opinion)
But then, the magic came.
Cheers!
