The Mether are the world's original military band. Used by the Mongols and later the Ottoman Turks to disrupt the enemy morale using the giant massed drums, and to announce the army's victory through bells and finally to whip the suicide squads to a frenzy with the pipes, the Mether was later copied by the western powers as today's marching bands.

The Mether Band today is a recreation of the Ottoman style, by the Istanbul Military Museum.
