Photosynth would allow Androids screen to display actual pictures of the situation when zooming in using the satellite view (not live view). The various people in live view could also add images to locations not already documented by photosyth's database.

Wouldn't it be nice to display shapefile contents (map, polygons) onto the real image ?

I have been working on a much more seamless integration with GIS (i.e. shapefiles etc; in both professional desktop and web 2.0 apps) for digital photographs for the purposes of automated geolocalisation. Hope to have first prototype out soonish. The trick lies in various orientation sensors built into the video or digital camera, which is generally not as straightforward as the enkin developers suggest; but certainly do-able.

Sometimes, I wish such thing for my grandparents, so that they have the connection between the map and their surrounding to better find their auto-route :).

no offense, but that seems kind of lame.
very basic, just data u overlay over live video, but the local awareness doesnt come from interpreting that live video, comes from gps and accelerometer vs geo db.
its too simple to be impressive.

I really like this concept! Even if Enkin uses data that has been readily available (GPS coords, tilt, camera feed) it combines them all to present something new. I would love to have that in my phone, whenever I get one which includes all the necessary features :P

Very nice work boys. It was inevitable that a program like this would be developed, and I'm glad that it will be associated with google, and the android brand/OS/devices. I can't wait to use it when I get one of the first android phones. I'd love to know what kind of phone you two get when they come out. (granting that you get one) again, nice work and I'm excited to play with it when it comes out. <3
