It´s early spring, the first sunny day. Two girls are eating pizza at the seashore. It´s windy but warm. Suddenly the wind rises...

It looks great, where is this?
  • Tõnis 4 months ago
Search maps.google.com for "short movie piece by piece".
It was shot in Haapsalu, Estonia.

This video was amazing, technically it looks great, the colours are superb, the part where she is sitting on the edge is really good, it looked like the ocean which i thought was 100's of metres below but then I realised it was just the ice :)

    I just have 2 questions

1.) What settings did you use to shoot the footage and how did you render it?

2.) Where can I buy this lens?

    Thanks.
  • Tõnis 4 months ago
1.) Just plain Cinemode with sunshine white balance. Rendered it from 1080P timeline to 50% quality Sorenson 3.

2.) I don´t know if it´s lens that rare but KEH.COM and eBay will do it. I personally don´t like the lens very much as it vignettes a bit more than the others I have and it´s quite pricey ($200) for what it is.

Good.. at first I thought it's about 2 girls eating pizza.. piece by piece! But then it got more intense, I was actually worried about the ice breaking down, but it all went all right at the end :)

Props for picking up the trash, most people don't even stop to pick up a napkin they drop.

Beautiful video, I hope I can ever put together something with a hv20 so gracefully.

I really liked this. I almost got vertigo. LOL Which lens do you have?
  •
  • Oh Tõnis This is beautiful. :-)

So sharp and crisp! and lovely the color tones!
This was filmed with an hv20 eh? using a DOF adapter as well?

yeah, this was touching. I loved the sound too. It seemed to make even the chit chat at the beginning seem profound.

Beautiful, great mood! I also thought that the water was much-much further down than it actually turned out to be :)

You seem to have really good pizza in Haapsalu.. hmm.

This looks better than the footage I get using my Nikon Nikkor lens. What is the lens you used?

Also this looks crisp for cinemode. Good work.

girls & pizza , what more do we need? :)
damn, i was so fooled by the perspective. i thought she would jump down 50 mtrs or something and then it was just ice that was pretty close to her feet :))
    great impressions, beautiful girls!
  • Remyyy 4 months ago
Yes, I had the exact same impression with the perspective. I thought the paper was a boat or something like that.
  •
  • dwyzak 4 months ago
That was really amazing, i thought she was gonna jump of a cliff, very confusing.

remended me of the Coen brothers.

    Nice!
What lens it is? I have a Nikon 50mm with Twoneil adapter and if I get this close to the subjects, I'll only catch their eyes.

    Amazing angle!

So Tonis, could you share the specs of your lens?
  • Tõnis 4 months ago
It was shot Canon FD 24mm f2.
I usually mark the specs and lens in the keywords section of the video.
  • Christophe Kirsch 4 months ago
Ok, thanks for answering. I did not notice the keywords.
Really nice video by the way. I love it.

I loved watching this little slice of life. I had the same impression as others here and thought they were sitting at the edge of a cliff with the ocean far below. It wasn't until later that I realized it was a lake that had been frozen over. Really beautiful.

nice footage. How did you pull focus? cam lcd or an external monitor?
  • Tõnis 3 months ago
Cam LCD. As I´ve accustomed to microprism focusing on odlschool cameras it is easy to focus with built-in LCD. Try to focus with a f1.7 8mm camera ;)...
This past weekend I used a Losmandy Porta-JIB on a shoot with HV20 and Letus Mini with many different and exotic lenses - tell me how hard it is to keep composition 3D movement and focus at the same time. Thankfully I had a tilt-shift lens at hand.

  • oxlee 3 months ago
    cool. impressive for cam lcd.

is your hv20/letus mini setup on rails support or hand-held all the way?

Now show us your comp/3d/motion/focus footage...
    heh.
  • Tõnis 3 months ago
My setup sits on Cavision DV rails system I`ve had for years.

You shall be able to see my addition for this week here vimeo.com/883553 (It´s a trailer for our next week 70 minute concert)

    Are you shooting in 24p?
  • Tõnis 3 months ago
I´m in PAL land so we shoot 25p here.

I really like this! You're talented. I also thought the ice was 100 meters below.
  •
  • Benjamin Reece 3 months ago
Guys, just wanted to point out- this was shot during sunset- sunrise, sunset, no, not the song- its the best time to shoot with natural lighting due to softer shadows/falloff
  • Tõnis 3 months ago
In the time of year it was shot there is almost constant sunrise and sunset here in Estonia by the way.
  •
  • Jake Kiso 3 months ago
WOW just sensational..... now Tonis can you please tell me how you got that quality from such a small camera??? Like what lens did you use and how did you put the lens on the hv20?? =)
  •
  • Benjamin Reece 3 months ago
I also want to point out guys- he is using a letus- the focusing screen is probably a much better ground glass and the achromat is probably really expensive.

Also, he has a rails system, which helps smooth out the stabilization of the whole camera, but also the lens to the body. (reduces lens jiggle)

He is also using very interesting composition- he uses his knee, their bodies to "mask" off the shots. As well as the composition never totally breaks the 180 degree line of action rule (because he would fall into the watter haha).
  • Havic Thurtee 2 months ago
Yeah, he definitely does more than just point and shoot. This guy is calculated and meticulous. Pure 'Jenie-U-us'(Genius).... I mean not a mere magician [[:D

Whoa, I thought they were a lot higher than they really were. It kind of freaked me out when they were on the edge.
