2. Worlds Within Worlds
This animation was a part of gallery show called "Interior Landscapes" at the Lab in San Francisco. The show incorporated painting, fabric sculpture and installation, along with this animation. The imagery in this work is inspired by botany, internal organs, and the idea of worlds within worlds. A loose narrative springs from the confusion of scale; the idea of life existing within seeds, creating landscapes at levels so large or small that they are beyond our grasp. With every change in magnification, it seems like a new world is born.

The animation is a collaboration with Mark Edwards, Jeff Ray and Jim Coursey. I developed it in connection with the music, and we took several passes back and forth to find a balance between the two.

What kind of software does one need to make something like this?)

I did some animation in Flash, and then some in After Effects- like the stop motion background keying part. And then a little bit of editing in Final Cut. If I had it to do over, I would try to do more in After Effects than in Flash as it was hard to export Flash to Quicktime in this case.
