My understanding is that the camera is only capable of actually writing out footage at 1440x1080x60i ... when you choose to record in 24p, it actually buries the 24p inside 60i. Getting the 24p out of the 60i once you copy the .mts files to your computer is possible, but I haven't actually tried it yet. It is one of those things that if you search around, there are people doing it in a lot of different ways and a lot of people saying "I tried your tutorial, but it didn't work!" ... so I'm waiting for the scene to mature a little bit and then I'll take a stab at it. In the meantime, I'm happy to record in 60i. When some project comes up where I am not just fooling around or recording my dog playing, I'll research it more thoroughly :)
