I did this video to test the capabilities of the Canon HV20 camcorder to do time lapse, for this I used three Led lights which I took in my hands and moved irregularly shaped what I recorded with the HV20 in TV mode with the shutter speed at 1/6th of a second and then increase by 400% to be seen in real time at 24 frames per second in my editing program, I used this method as much as half of the video, the other half I recorded at at 1/12th of a second shutter speed and acelerate the video 200% to get back the 24 frames per second, this creates a movement accelerated what I did also leaves a glimmer forming lines of lights.

Tommy Rodriguez, an amazing effect. I think the most simplest effects sometimes can be so rewarding such as this. You have just shown us how great of a camera the HV20 is. Nice going .. again..

I liked your video. I am attempting a similar look but attempting to say words with this motion. Any ideas on how to do that?

I'm a little confused. I recently bought an HV30, and my understanding is that the camera shoots in 60i (not true 24p), and it's actually a bit of a process to extract 24p footage out of the HV30's 60i stream. It's not difficult, but with the HV30 (or HV20), you are not really shooting 24p. Furthermore, there is no relationship, as far as I can tell, between shutter speed and fps. So, by shooting at a slower shutter speed (say 1/6) and then speeding up the footage by a certain percentage in post, you're not actually having any effect on the frame rate itself. It makes sense to use a slower shutter speed for time lapse (at least to a novice like me), but unless I'm way off base, taking that footage and speeding it up will have no bearing on the frame rate. That's an important thing about the HV20 and HV30 and now the HV40 - there is no such thing as true 24p. And you can't overcrank either for slow mo (i.e., 60p), which is kind of disappointing, but I've found some tutorials on how to get 60p out of the HV30's 60i stream. Again, it's not that big of a deal, but it's something important to consider, I think. Am I whacked? Just want to make sure I have this camera figured out.
