1. Canon HV20 + 35mm Adapter Test
These are some random tests of my Canon HV20 with a DIY 35mm vibrating-GG adapter I built. I got the vibrating-GG holder parts from Daniel's web site (jetsetmodels.info/products.htm). It works great. The GG used was Canon EE-A. The 35mm Lenses used were Nikon 28mm-F2.8, 35mm-F2.8, 50mm-F1.4 and 85mm-F1.8, all old school AI or non-AI ones.

Somehow the converted video's quality is not as good as I expected. I suggest you download the original AVI file (at the lower-right corner of the page). It looks much better IMHO and is only about 20MB.

    Hi Eric
I m surprised you don t have to use a macro lens.
I ve the same adapter from Daniel and a HV20, and it s impossible to get the focus on the screen. Do you resize your video from HD to SD and crop some part ?
    thanks
and the quality is very good

Sorry for the late reply. Yes, the edges of the GG is visible so I crop about 10% of the image, and resize it to 480p. I'm thinking getting the Opteka 10x Macro or Daniel's HV20ACHR1.

    Hi Eric,
I am in Taiwan too. I was just wondering where you got the
EE-A? I can only find the EE-S. Do you know if anyone in Taiwan is making static GG holders?

    Eric
I use a CrystalVue 10x macro lens, it works fine. But I wonder if it s not better to use no macro lens and resize at the end ( if you don t need full HD )
your picture in very sharp, don t think you can have this sharpness if you use a macro lens ( not expensive one )

    Thank you all, guys.
I got my EE-A used from Yahoo Bid Taiwan, and couldn't find another myself ever since! I have EE-S too and it's not bad comparing to EE-A, if not better.
I'm using Opteka 10x HD as achromat now and the image quality is better IMO. At least for barrow distortion and chromatic aberration. There's no noticeable degrading on sharpness. I got it from Amazon for just $29.95.
I'll post some new footages when I shoot some. If you read Chinese I also post here:

how do you eliminate the grain

im currently building a EE-A Dof-Adapter too based on EOS extension tubes, since you use Nikon lenses i assume you use nikon extension tubes. I wonder if they have a diameter of 60mm too like my eos tube does ? do you use a stepup ring to 60mm, where do you got it from ???

  • Eric Wu 1 year ago
    Fabrizio Bavestrello:
The GG is from Canon, the vibrating holder is from Daniel.
The grain is not visible once the vibration is on.

    Laszlo Vasquez:
The diameter of Nikon extension tube is 57mm, smaller than EOS ones. Daniel provides step-up ring for Nikon extension tubes now, too:

Not fair putting a dog in a test shot. I lose all objectivity. If it's got a dog in it, especially a beautiful dog like that one, I think it's a great video.

    GREAT work!!!

did you find any differences in shooting with Non AI lens and the AI lens?

was the quality different when using the older non AI lens?
