Hawthorne Bridge Time Lapse

Didn't expect to see it go up and down...cool! No boat, so it must have been a drill or something. What's the deal with that pulsing streetlight on the left side of the bridge?? Looks like planes taking off in the upper left, but I don't think PDX is in that direction.

Blake-I believe that is Portland, OR.
Oh, and great video! :)
And yes, that would be the Portland airport way off to the left - it's right on the Columbia River (that would be to the north).
The bridge goes up and down many nights around 10 PM when the (snotty, arrogant) bridge operator climbs down from his shack and goes home for the evening. I'm not sure why this is - I think it may something to do with the need to keep the lift cables lubricated if the Bridge hasn't already been cycled that day. Woe to the person who happens to be walking across the bridge at this time, when the operator's ready to go home.
For some real fun, you may want to get a pellet rifle and take it with you the next time you cross the Bridge, and take a few pot-shots at the operator, just for the hell of it. I'd aim for his ass if you can see it (and it should be plenty big, as much as he sits on it) - no need to injure him - just give him some pain and scare the hell out him on my account. He deserves it.
Looking at google maps I think I was pointing east and just a little bit south, PDX is definately north which is why I was curious about the planes.
I was actually thinking about befriending the operator so he'd let me up there for an even better angle...
Yeah, Portland is awesome. Go eat breakfast at John's Street Cafe up in St. John's sometime. Corn Beef hash is the best! Mmmm....
