A.K.A. The drummer's bane

Out of every instrument that I have played, drums are definitely the most fun. However, they're definitely the most annoying instrument to cart around. I am lucky enough to have somewhere to play them, but they have to be stored away for the rest of the time. This is the process I have to go through before every band practice (and in reverse after the practice!).

Fortunately for you, I've sped the video up by about 16 times!

... apart from the end where I play, that's normal speed...

... or maybe double ;)

Hmmm. I can't seem to load more than 9 seconds of this! I'll speak to the staff about it tomorrow...

Maybe you should hire someone to set it all up for you!

it all played for me, too.

Well, we're not all rich wealthy doctors haha! j/k

In reality, I moan about having to set it up, but I'm such a control freak that I don't actually want anyone else to do it for me!

I have a couple of good friends who are also drummers, and I don't mind them helping (when they're around). But setting up a drum kit is like adjusting your car seat before you drive - only you know where it all should be so that you can reach everything right.

It must be time for a Buck Flashroy v. Thommy Browne v. C. Dub Allstar drum battle!

Haha, I love that video - especially the end.

In the words of Charlie Steadman "Vimeo is an exhibition, not a competition"!

[how's that for chickening out haha ;) ]

  • Most annoying part of being a drummer, when i was in high school...was that everytime we played shows..I would have to haul all this giant equipment and the guitarist and bassist just had their instruments and like a half stack with wheels. those harlots.

    i'm not gonna lie.

    I'm impressed at this.

    and you.

Yeah, I love playing gigs, but it's a pain in the arse getting the kit there. To make it worse, because I take all my drums anyway, I normally end up taking their guitar and bass stuff too.

Thanks for your kind words - I'm impressed with you too :)

Where are the chimes for that "70's" sound?
  • Buck Flashroy 1 month ago
    ???

Are you referring to the music or my drums?

The music was taken from a really old program I used to use to make computer games with, called 'klik and play'. They have a library of different midi files, and I found this in amongst them. It seemed to fit quite well, but still has that funny old computer game feel to it.

Your drums. A lot of bands in the 70's had chimes attached to the drum kit and would run the stick acrossed them now and then. Steely Dan comes to mind.

    Oh ok.

I guess I don't have any chimes because I'm not going for a 70's sound haha. My kit here sounds different to normal because it's sped up - usually it sounds a bit meatier (deeper and stronger) which works well for the kind of music our band plays.
