Zi was too embarrassed to play the boingy thing in front of everyone so she took Claire's camera away and filmed herself in secret.

I still don't know what the thing is called. Anyone care to fill me in?

Jew's Harp actually, but that looks slightly different (don't know why it's called a Jew's Harp... no doubt antisemetic, but that's what it's called.... not a jaw harp).

Oh, so that's why you can buy them so cheaply! *takes a bow*
  • Alex Itin plus 3 years ago
might be the reason... certainly cheaper than a harp....

I don't want to brag (I'm bragging), but I've got a Jew Harp that's been touched the one and only Fred Penner.

Anyhow, I don't think that's a jaw harp; at least it's different than anyone I've ever seen/played. It's definitely has a similar tone; maybe it's a geographical variation?

They're definately trying to flog them off as cultural things of the region. But I think that really has more to do with the material that they decorate them with.

Zi is from the H'moung tribe from Lao Chai. (Don't trust my spelling.)

Yes, it's jaw's harp, but slightly different, it's called DAN MOI. Dan moi harps are played by pressing them to the lips, not the teeth. They are Vietnamese origin.

P.S: i see, that posts are two years old, but maybe some stranger will curious and this will help him.
