Made a big old generative, video-responsive version of space invaders last Summer. The boss at the start is already on its way out.

Is that how hes controlling the game thats freaking cool.

Thanks. Yeah, the spaceship follows you from side-to-side and jumping (or otherwise changing your height) causes it to fire.

this is nice -- would it be possible to talk me through its production?

Very nice. Were you synthesizing key presses for an emulator, or actually running space invaders in Processing? Theo Watson tried something similar more recently: vimeo.com/1712110

We actually programmed all our own game logic and a generative alien maker. So it's just based off of Space Invaders. I'm not sure how to approach controlling a rom, as Theo seems to be doing, but that's something that would be really fun.

Wow, I was going to say something about how I don't think I've seen that version of Space Invaders before... :) In C++ there's a lot more control over system-level things like synthesizing mouse clicks and key presses, I don't think Java has a way of accessing those things.
