Space Invaders
Made a big old generative, video-responsive version of space invaders last Summer. The boss at the start is already on its way out.

Encript 2 years agoIs that how hes controlling the game thats freaking cool. -
David Wicks 2 years agoThanks. Yeah, the spaceship follows you from side-to-side and jumping (or otherwise changing your height) causes it to fire. -
tom dunne 2 years agothis is nice -- would it be possible to talk me through its production? -
Kyle McDonald 1 year agoVery nice. Were you synthesizing key presses for an emulator, or actually running space invaders in Processing? Theo Watson tried something similar more recently: vimeo.com/1712110 -
David Wicks 1 year agoWe actually programmed all our own game logic and a generative alien maker. So it's just based off of Space Invaders. I'm not sure how to approach controlling a rom, as Theo seems to be doing, but that's something that would be really fun. -
Kyle McDonald 1 year agoWow, I was going to say something about how I don't think I've seen that version of Space Invaders before... :) In C++ there's a lot more control over system-level things like synthesizing mouse clicks and key presses, I don't think Java has a way of accessing those things.
