This is just a simple test using the adapter built by Twoneil. I shot this using Cinemode - 24p - locked shutter at 1/48. Lens used is a Nikon 50mm f/1.4.

The kids are giving a lesson in focal length and focus pulling};)

Thanks! The adapter he makes is SUPERB! Just don't do anything foolish like I did and TOUCH THE FOCUS SCREEN. Arrrrgh! LoL! No biggie, I have a new one on order, and in the meantime, I can edit more of the footage I shot};) Best of luck!

Michael - I agree with Inlight...great shots! I should be receiving my adaptor from TwoNeil soon. It's been a long wait, but well worth it as it looks! I'm going to check out the rest of your videos.

Thanks Sean, it is definitely worth the wait!

  • what kind of mic are you using? or is it straight from the camera? im still debating whether the HV30 is worth the money or i should save my money and go for the HV20. do you have any idea whats so different between the two?
  • Michael J. 2 years ago
For this shot, I was actually using the stock mic on the camera itself. As for the HV30, I don't have any experience with it, but from what I hear, it is a good camera. I love my HV20 though, and the only upgrade I am looking forward to is a little something I like to call "Scarlet'};)
  • stock mic??? wow thats great. sounds really good.

Niiiiiiiiiiice quality man, very nice. Just ordered one of these bad boys myself. Are you happy with the adapter? And also, how did you lock the shutter at 1/48?
  • Michael J. 2 years ago
Thanks Garrett! You will be very happy with the adapter. I feel that this adapter, or any adapter of good quality will take your cinematography to another level. It forces you to learn the craft, and that is a good thing!};) As for the shutter lock, I close the aperture on the lens all the way, then on the HV20, I drop and lock exposure. If you press the photo-button half way down, it will give you an aperture and shutter reading. Then you're locked and ready to rock. Just be careful of OVER exposure. If you open the HV20's aperture all the way, then have your lens open all the way, EVERYTHING gets blown out. Not a good thing, unless that is your intent};)

Oh ok cool. So what kind of lens are you using then where wou can control the aperture size. Cause i know with my Canon 50mm f/1.8, that has to be done using the camera. Also, I'm assuming that when you adjust the HV20's exposure, it controls the aperture and shutter speed?

Once again great vids you got man. And thanks for responding!
  • Michael J. 2 years ago
Well thats the trick with using an adapter such as this. Not only are you using the Canon/Nikon lens aperture, but you are still using the camera's aperture as well. When you control both of them, and have everything working right together, you can make some really good footage. Oh, and plan ahead on lighting as well. Just an idea};)

thats so real. u managed to capture such magnificent and true reactions from the kids. no matter the adapter, even with crappy DV, this would still look good.
Its not what camera u use, but what u put in front, that counts.
    Good job man.

Thanks! The kids, well, if you look up the word crazy, you'll find their pictures next to it! };) Seriously, they just have so much charisma, and it is a joy to not only let them wild out and have fun, but I get to really practice the craft. Not a bad trade-off};)

color looks very rich! is this also a vibration adapter? it seems almost no noise from the adapter, doesn't it?

this is still my favorite. it really looks like 35mm panavision film. is it a vibrating adapter?
  • Michael J. 7 months ago
Thanks Patrick! This is actually the static adapter. I have made some modifications to it since I shot this particular film. If you're interested, check out my latest videos and you will see. Cheers!
