Canon HV20 Wide Lens
Here is a 0.45x wide lens for a Canon HV20 or a Canon HV30 - this wide lens has 12x zoom through so it works well with the Canon 10x zoom - it has a rear thread that is bigger than the Canon lens thread - that's good - and it has a thread in front so filters can be attached.

Canon HV20 and HV30 mounting thread: 43mm
0.45x wide lens - 52mm - does not vignette
Front filter thread size: 67mm
A 72mm or 77mm Step-Up ring works with front filters

CameraWorks Northwest
- I bought these 0.45x lenses at CameraWorks Northwest
- cameraworksnw.com/
- 0.45x item number may be: 370015012540

Very cool info! When did you get this lens and step up ring? Is this the current info regarding the Camera Works Northwest seller? I can't believe that you have got this wide angle lens for such a low price. Do you know how this lens would compare to the original Canon wide lens designed for Hv20? Any difference?

    Canon HV20 and HV30
    35mm equivialent: 53mm x 10 = 530mm
    53mm x 0.7x = 37mm x 10 = 370 mm

The Original Canon wide lens is very good.
    0.7x - zoom through 10x
    - works with Canon HV20 and HV30
Yet - it has no front threads
thus, no filters can be easily attached

    The 0.45x works just fine
    - 67mm front thread
    - wide and zoom through more than 10X
    - works with Canon HV20 and HV30
    - available now in 2008

    Canon HV20 and HV30
    35mm equivalent: 53mm x 10 = 530mm
    53mm x 0.45x = 23.85mm x 10 = 238.5 mm

    Whoops!
I will have to shoot some images.
I keep the 0.45x wide lens on pretty much all the time.
0.45x zoomed through 10x to 238.5mm is typically pretty long for what I shoot. Often I am up close and wide. A 53mm wide is typically not wide enough for me.

    HV20 / HV30 lens info:
    Optical zoom = 10x
    35mm equivalent: 53mm x 10 = 530mm - no wide lens
    53mm x 0.45x = 23.85mm x 10 = 238.5 mm - wide lens

    Michael
Let me know how you like it when you get it.
Remember - the thread size at the back of the wide lens ought to be LARGER than the thread size of your camera lens.

What camera will you put it on.
It works fine an a Canon HV20/30

In January 2008 BestBatt sold it for $35
Now, in June 2008 BestBatt has a price of $49

    It may be 2400 mAh

Thanks this was helpful. Let me get this clear:
    1.Get a 43/52mm step up ring
2.Get a fisheye thats 52mm like this one and have no vignette?

    Your Canonvision lens is 0.35x
    BH: tinyurl.com/o4xull

The one I used is 0.45x - it zooms through 10:1+
  •
  • Paul Shmelov 5 months ago
Wouldn't it still work though? Or is your technique only for wides?
  •
  • Picture America plus 5 months ago
    The Canonvision lens is 0.35x'
    ought to work just fine

Your lens may not zoom through all in focus.
The wide fish eye ought to be fine at full wide

    See BH: tinyurl.com/o4xull
