Narrated by Eldith Murdoch.

A brief set by Steve Rigley & Jo Petty asked to create a Cultural Guide to the United Kingdom.

This video highlights cultural icons that one would traditionally consider to be associated with the UK. Their true origins are revealed. The objects are portrayed in heavily stylised vector drawings, as to highlight their apparent familiarity to UK residents.

This film has a tone of instructional kid’s TV: an immigration relations officer for the police told me that the children in immigrant families learn to integrate much quicker than the adults, and thus act as a conduit to the parents. This format also delivers the information in a way which isn’t patronising.

Instead of being aimed at immigrants or migrant workers, this is a ‘cultural guide’ for every citizen of the United Kingdom; explaining that the UK has prospered as an effect foreign input.

This film is through to the semi-finals of the Adobe Design Achievement Awards. Fingers crossed.

Absolutely beautiful. Love the child's voiceover. Will have to show my wife (who's from London) and our son (who's four). Methinks they'll both enjoy.

very good. It´s good to see how many british traditions come from other cultures!

I´m not crazy about the child's voiceover, though. It made it harder for me to understand, since i´m not a native english speaker.

im from england and i thought this was very good, though note that it would be a adequate idea to put in something about country life as i live in the countryside and i would say that it is more British then living in a city like London or Birmingham. still i thought it was a good master piece.

WOW! I love the voice, the message, and most importantly the animation. This style! How do you create completely fluid "3D" 2d images like the cup and the teabag? Is it using 3d studio max or maya?

    Thanks man.
It was entirely 2D masks within after effects, and a lot of hours spent hand-tweaking.
I really need to learn a 3D package...

Great video, but want to point out an error in your grammar... It's "its culture", not "it's culture". The latter would imply the meaning 'it is culture', which makes no sense in the context of the sentence.

(With the apostrophe, it would read "The United Kingdom gained a lot of it is culture from foreign influences", which I'm sure you can see makes no sense at all.)

It's the only imperfection in an otherwise fantastic and very insightful video, I hope this feedback's useful :)

really love this style. But theres a little flaw on 00:57 just one frame before the transition ends. I see the layer below the text layer, (police walking scene) finished one frame short.
