Due to some delays in a Universal Binary release of Manga Studio, I explore switching to Painter X.

    Do you have a link to Cocoa Pop Trace (not even sure of the spelling here...)? I found nothing through Google.

    The next question is... will you switch back to Manga Studio once version 4 hits? Although it's possible to get "close" to MS's line quality with Painter, personally I still think MS is more flexible and gives a better controlled line resulting in a more consistent, snappier-looking graphic or illustration. Just my impression.

    Dunno about Painter... matter of fact, I had no idea you could rotate like that 'til Ray's video. Blimey, the time I coulda saved.

    I also bought a Wacom, and as a daily photoshop user I'm doubting if i'ts worthy to should start using MS or PX for my illustrations (I'm a total noob on both so the learning curve is important here). The problem with Photoshop is that I cant quite get a nice stroke like yours, on the other hand the Painter comes with nicer and smoother strokes... what do you suggest? Should I stick with Photoshop or try a new program just for illustration? Will you reveal your basic stroke definitions after all?

    After getting a little frustrated trying to make some illustrations on photoshop i decided to try Manga Studio and Painter. Manga Studio is just AWESOME to draw with! Drawing with the pen just makes it so damn easy! Really! I was getting so frustrated with the Photoshop brush definitions and Manga Studio just makes it so simple... it does what you expect it to do.. perfect :) As for painter I agree... it seems very good to colouring but too much complicated for a first timer. I think ill make the line work at manga studio and coloured it on photoshop or something. Tomorrow i will try and make the same linework again in Manga Studio.

    That's a pretty common workflow. Inks in Manga, color somewhere else.

    I just got Painter X and am waiting for my Wacom Intuous3 tablet to arrive in the mail. Are there any good places to find video tutorials on how to use Painter X? If you know of any sites with video tutorials, I'd love to know about them and thanks so much for posting this terrific vid.
