  • Aw thanks a lot Oliax. I am getting the film for my final project next week so I'm crossing my fingers for that to turn out as well as this. :-)

if only there were a bigger heart on the side for "loving". you guys did some really nice work and your credit at mirror made me giggle bunches.
  • hahah thanks Todd. He spent about 15 minutes convincing me to do it, I refused to (behind camera, not in front of), but then I realized we were wasting time by arguing so I did it. Haha.

You have a big heart. <3

Nicely edited. The start of the credits seemed a bit sudden. Maybe a longer fade out of the music before credits? But you did a nice job here.
  • you know what, totally agree. I had my little brother watch this and he said, "that transition sucked".

haha. It took forever to render/export so I got lazy, but I'm going to fix that right now.

    :-) Beep boop
  • Just fixed/uploading..it should be replaced in about 5 hours or so...hahaa.

oh wow my favourite bit was that effect of the camera shaking up and down on the faces. how did you do that? it's the first time i've seen it, it's so niftty and clever and beautiful.

heaps good video, you made the music fit real well.

haha you're so cute at the end.
  • Actually...the camera ruined the film. We shot it at 64fps so that it would be in slow motion when played back at 24fps, but then the registration pin in the bolex must have been loose because then film was all smudged and smeared and the playback actually looked that jittery on the film. Luckily enough, we filmed those two shots back to back so only they got ruined...but what didn't make sense to me was that the other shots shot in 64fps looked fine. It could've been a combination of the registration pin or the pressure plate on the camera, who knows.

Sometimes accidents work in our favor. Hee hee.

Haha thanks you so much you are a darling.

    ACCIDENTS ARE ART´S FRIENDS.

How many great visual ideas came from accidents?
  • Agreed :-)

    This is AMAZING!

Great story! How did you get this film scrolling effect?
  • it was actually a freak accident. The registration pin or the pressure plate must have been loose because the film is smuged/damaged as you see it. But it all worked out. haha..

Okay :) I watched half of this video the other day and my stoopid firefox crashed on me (cause I had about 100 tabs open)...

    I lost a comment I had written too :P

I think this is a very painful and beautiful short - you did an awesome job filming it, I'm so jealous of all the fun you get to have with 16mm. And your mustache cutter.

I also loved the credits of this - and "yayy!!!" an appearance from Karen :D
  • Hahah I always have a bazillion tabs open on my firefox.

The pain and beauty may be accredited to the writer/director. I just simply aided in composing the shots and rolling camera. (here's a secret....this is for his cinematography final..) shhhhhh.......that's why my credits on the actual video are somewhat ambiguous.....

    haha

Psh i like your appearances...always...especially with your hot specks.

Does anyone shoot on 16mm anymore? I guess Karen Abed still does. Mark my words that we are seeing the blossoming of good director here. You got great performances from your actors here. Dealing with a very potent subject matter. But you pulled it off. With the use of Sigur Rose makes the visual and audio come alive. Once again nice job...
  • 16mm is alive and well in my heart! hee hee.

Though I assisted Vitor with the directing, most of it is to his credit. I had fun editing it as well. I will be getting my 16mm final project back this week so hopefully that will be up soon in the next couple weeks. :-)

    you are too kind.

Can't wait to see your final :)
  • Oh lord
I just spent the last 9 hours straight editing my 16mm final on the flatbed. I am pretty much spent. It didn't turn out as well as I'd hope, but you'll see it in a week or so. <3

Yiggidy Yo, great job. Loved the lighting and use of mirrors and lights and darks in the film--did you use any lighting kits or just natural lighting? Stuff on the bed looked great.
  • Natural lighting my dear bug. Actually the entire corner of the room has GIANT glass windows..and we used that to our advantage....blinds/curtain/shades.etc to manipulate as we went along. Actually we were scared our lighting would be off because of the lack of lighting, but we shot on negative and not reversal so there's more room for error. :-)

I really want to like this vid - but it's so hard to do because I don't really get the plot...
    Bummer.
  • Jip Eilbracht 2 years ago
Well, I do get it a little bit, but not that good (watched it three times now)
  • hahah it's alright Jip.
Basically the woman you see laying on the bed at the end is in a relationship with the guy, let's just say that she's the wife. So the wife wants to leave her husband because she catches him cheating on her. However, he's pretty abusive and controlling and doesn't let her leave. So she's trapped in their relationship. The first scene with the mistress is when it actually happens, then when you see the wife's face it's her story, then it jumps to a flashback of when she caught her husband cheating on her. :-) Wow i think i may have done and even more confusing job describing that. haha.
  • Jip Eilbracht 2 years ago
    Okay - like that.
I get it now! I thought the first woman was his wife... But it's actually very well played, and shot.
  • Jip Eilbracht 2 years ago
And I so love the shot when he gets hit on his cheek and looks to himself in the mirror.

    geez what a powerful storyline.

i like that its in black and white, theres something about it being in black & white that made me like it more haha

and awww you looked so cute at the end haha
  • Yeah I agree, the medium this was shot in is definitely fitting for the story. I just finished my 16mm final...in black and white..and I wish that it was in colour because I did a lot of colourful production design for it. But such is life.

    whatever you're cute. not me.

Very compelling. Beautifully shot. I heard a few audio "clicks"....which is probably my computer. I mention this because alot of my films end up with clicks after compression. Have you noticed this at all?
  • You know what this could have them, I'm not entirely sure yet. I know that when I import mp3s into final cut pro there are small gaps within it, as opposed to if I used an AIFF file. My professor explained why that is last semester but I can't remember the reason....

    :-)

    Loved that vertical smearing effect!

    Great job, Karen!
  • Thanks so much eric for your kind words and support. Haha that vertical smearing effect was definitely a happy accident that involved a lose registration pin. Thanks loose bolex. :-)
  • Eric Rieper 1 year ago
That's one of the best things about shooting stuff on film... accidents can be real-real-real happy. A digital accident just sounds scary and usually doesn't wind up too happy.

very strong, and i love the shake effect of the camera- i think it's makes it very special!!
    good work!

p.s. what is the name of the song?
  • Heysatan.

    :-)

Thanks Moran. Yeah the shake just happened by chance because the registration pin was loose.
