Indian Falls is a natural conservation area in southern ontario. This guided video tour takes you along the hiking trail from the parking lot to the falls.

I'm creating this as a spec tourism/travel video to have as a part of a demo reel.

This is an early edit that is not completed yet. Audio narration will be re-recorded, synced background music will replace the placeholder piece and seperate location audio will be subbed for the on camera audio. Still several hours work of work left to do but I wanted to share this work in progress.

It was shot over three days in early spring when the water levels are highest and the falls has the best showing of the year. Filmed with a XHA1 + Letus Extreme with 3 different Nikon lenses. These were my first experiences with animation software and served the purpose I was hoping they would. I am still working on improving them as well.

The video is the default preset with colour correction done in post. Some Magic Bullet Looks were incorporated and other effects and filtering will be completed in the final edit.

Enjoy and comments are welcome!

Great looking video. I think guides like these are great because it was unlikely that I would ever get to visit this location. This is a great way to see these places. Well shot, good audio and consistent in color throughout the guide. Only complaint is the dramatic chopping video as you pass the sign going into the park. It made it seem a little dramatic when really you want the park to be inviting. :)
    Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the comments Luke. In a week or two the finished edit should be ready. It will show the falls (I kinda wanted to not show that yet at this stage).

Great shots. BUT as a soundtech i can't overhear the rattle noise with some shots.
    Is it from the Letus?
  • James Hooey 1 year ago
Correct, the rattle noise is the on camera mic picking up the vibration of the ground glass in the Letus. The audio is a placeholder currently and will be replaced with seperate audio when this project is complete. Good ears and mind for figuring out the audio sound issues.

Thx for explanation. I want to know more about Letus and its use of it. I dint know about a vibrating ground glass. If it still is making that kind of noise means you can't never use the camera int. micropfone?
Maybe a silly question bur i'm new in the market.
As a Letus user you must know some info web sides that explains the working of that kind of stuff.
    Plz advise.

In most cases the on camera mic does pic up the vibrating sound of the ground glass. Using a hypercardiod shotgun mic in an shockmounted holder mounted to the camera can often work pretty well although there is still the small possibility of picking up a bit of the vibrating sound. The best solution, and the one I use for location audio while shooting is to use a seperate mic either on a mic stand or operated on a boom or if the situation warrants it a lavalier mic.

Some good discussions about lens adapters can be found on the DVXuser forum (35mm adpater section) or the DVinfo forum (lens adapters section). Lots of posts of all sorts of topics relating to lens adapters, their uses, pros/cons, ect.

    Hope that helps.
