how was color on the xdcam codec?

Kjell, you mean how was the camera's virgin color before grading? I'm not sure how much the codec itself has to do with color rendition besides the 4:2:2 vs. 4:2:0 debate. Does it?

The color straight from the camera is good; not great, but not horrible either. I come from a pro photo background, where working with RAW files and their color is a completely different experience than video. I find the camera/codec to be fairly forgiving, depending on your lighting situation. It doesn't handle the extremes of bright, contrasty, sun shots or contrast-blah, rainy, dark lighting all that well, imho.
