1. I'll Try - HD
The sun is exceptionally golden in spring sunsets. The morning dusts look like sprinkles of snow floating by. I had to capture this! Tinkerbell whispers in my ears. I think my 2 lil' tinkers are awake.

In nearby Noord AA lake, folks are baking out in the sun instead of their UV beds. Yes sunshine is scarce here behind the usual grey skies! Volleyball, windsurfing, sailing, fishing and swimming are just some activities that takes place there. This lake is also home to the Dutch Dragon who is current champion for the National Dragon Boat competition.

I know that some shots are not levelled. It was rather awkward switching back to tripods after weeks of using the 561B monopod. I definitely need to get a fluid level attached to the 128RC head somehow. I'll figure it out.

Nice one Rast Man! LOVE the second track!
  • rastAsia 7 months ago
Thanks JB! 2nd track would be Sunny Road by Emilia Torini.

That sun ray CCD smear was irritating the hell out of me. But I'm loving the manual ride on this cam too much to let it go just yet. I'll wait and see what Canon will come up with after the HV30. You don't get such smears on CMOS sensors. A Canon hard drive or flash based follow up will most likely bend me.

Thanx 4 the track info! Yeah, I'm curious to what Canon will be commin' out with here in the next year or two. Something with some real manual controls, HD & under $2000 would be nice!

Hello! Very beautiful footage! I am lucky enough to be traveling out to the Netherlands in a few days. I hope it stays that nice until I can be there myself. I very much enjoyed your shots (my favorite was the close plant shot at the beginning with the rack focus). Excellent soundtrack as well!
  • rastAsia 7 months ago
Deeply humbled by your positive comments Vince. My work is childplay if compared to your creative weavings! Focus ring on the HD7 got me sold to it instead of HV20. Its a tough call especially when I use Canon DSLR and Powershot for stills. Easy access on shutter speed, exposure and aperture helped secured that choice. Weather in Netherlands expected to be cooler with some rain over weekend. But hey if you need somebody to show you around, who has an umbrella when needed, just drop me a note! Maybe we can do a X-International Vimean meeting. :)

Charming visuals and great soundtrack choice Rastasia.
For leveling, try rotation and scaling, in the hope you don't lose to much of your crisp shots (you can always try to ad some shapness to it, 1 to 5%).
    Liked it a lot.

Pierre mon ami, thanks for the tips man! You know I've had Final Cut Studio for a while now (promotional upgrade from Apple) but never actually worked with it. I was using Soundtrack as required workflow with my audio works. But since having the HD7, I thought why not dwell in it myself. Thus any tips is appreciated!
  • Pierre 6 months ago
Yep, you should go for it. I use Adobe stuff for those things, FCP works the same way. There is still some learning curve to it.
  • rastAsia 6 months ago
Yep. I need bit more time to get around Final Cut. And I'm ever so tempted to get After Effects. But jeeez the price of this softwares are gonna suck me bone dry.
  • Pierre 6 months ago
Yes I know: ce n'est pas donné. FCP and AE can be a good duo, one for VFx and one for editing.
I would like to help you. Just PM me you email adress (if you want).

great video is this with new jvc gzmg330? im decide to get one or a canon one that has great quality image
  • rastAsia 6 months ago
Hi mimi. This was shot with the GZ-HD7. Canon also makes great camcorder if you don't plan to use much manual focus or manual setups.

Gorgeous stuff. Watching your video-stream so far is inspiring me even more to get a HD camera... I'm still leaning towards Canon since I've got the 5D (version 1) as my DSLR. But, you're saying there's no manual focus with the HV20/30? What if your shooting with a 35mm adapter? Then, I assume you can focus with the attached lens. Would that be the case? This stuff is pretty new to me... but I'm itching to dive into this HD world and start learning.
  • rastAsia 2 months ago
Frankly I'd say photographers can easily make better videographers coz you're tuned to compose each frame in detail. And especially with the emergence of HD for Video, there's so many foto buffs that is slowly including video in their workflow. The fact that JVC's medium is digital hard drive, it makes the transition or inquisition almost seamless. Quality from the HV30 is phenomenal even on full auto, but if you're so used to composing your shots in Manual or AV or TV playing with DOF and such. You'd be itching for manual capabilities right away. Thus my choice for the GZ-HD7. Plus you'd probably need to learn to handle tape, ie. maintenance, regions between PAL/NTSC playback etc.

There's pros and cons to both media of course. 60GB of hard drive in mine allow me to record 5 hrs in 1440CBR or Full 1080i format. Storage is also a snap with low costing external drives these days. But tape? You'll be looking at cataloging and storage space. But the plus side I see from using tape is that you can keep recording as much as you can if you carry extras of it. Opposed to having to dump the full hard drive before being able to continue with next shoot. But we're talking 5 hrs of recording here.

Adding a 35mm adapter on either cams sure adds creativity to the shoot. You can go over to the channel I created to see how other users of the same camera use it to the creative max. Its afterall not about the camera, but your inner ability to be creative before and after the shoot.
    vimeo.com/jvchd

HD7 prices are dropping rapidly in US and I'll add that its a great camera to start getting into HD. Which quality has been comparable to those costing 10x more.

Good luck. Hope it helps a little to making those choices! And thanks for your so many kind words on my videos.

You're absolutely helping with that. Thanks. I'll definitely check out the channel, too.
