So, while I was watching that, I had a terrible thought. "Man, I wish that fire was longer"

Not really of course...I hope you understand why haha

Cooool! Zooming at 00:16 is surreal.

However, a firestorm is not cool in real life.

The editing is self explanatory, but how did you transition into daytime from long exposure night photos ?

I'm very curious too about that... Simply amazing.

he didn't pan or zoom the camera.
it's all done in the video editor

i think i can see various exposure steps during sunrise.
So my guess is that he used the other cameras to try different exposure levels and settings, and then change the exposure on the main camera when he thought the moment was right.

Thats a pretty intense fire. I'm a big fan of the moon passing through while the fire is going on. Awesome stuff.

    Thanks for the comments everyone!
Pretty exhilarating and amazing at the same time when you are able to shoot this dramatic backdrop so close to the source and from your own backyard.
To answer some of your questions. This timelapse was shot using 2 Dslr's and one HDV cam. The beauty part is the higher resolution cameras allow me to build 'nested composites'. Since they originally shoot at 3456x2304. This is how I was able to achieve some of the pans & zooms without motion control and maintain the original quality in Hi-def. Now if I could only find a site that would stream that kind of bandwidth. :)
Thanks for the kind words, more to come!

Amazing timelapse... the pan and zoom techniques are very creative and unique!

They turned my high school into an emergency shelter during this... we were quite close to some of the fires in Riverside County.

    Fabulous work.
For a moment I thought it was from the Dodecanese island of Simi - this summer many islands were struck by bushfires.
