Mount Wilson is a small hamlet that lies within the world heritage listed Blue Mountains National Park. The village is roughly 130 km west of Sydney and it is 1040 meters above sea level. It has a permanent population of about 200 people. Mount Wilson and a number of nearby mountains were originally formed by extensive volcanic activity and this is why the region has an abundance of rich basalt soils. The soil is the reason why significant temperate rain forests and many varieties of ferns have flourished. The forests provide a habitat for a wide variety of native wildlife. European settlers originally had great difficulty reaching the vicinity of Mount Wilson because of the rugged terrain and the thick forest - however Aboriginal people lived there for many centuries and there are numerous rock carvings and paintings, implement-sharpening grooves and stone axe-heads in the surrounding forests and in the nearby caves. William Govett was the first European that has been confirmed as having reached Mount Wilson - he journeyed there in 1833. By 1880 a number of elaborate English-style houses had been built by wealthy families as retreats from the summer heat and considerable humidity of coastal Sydney. These early residents created extensive gardens which thrived in the volcanic soil. The gardens fostered plants from Europe and Asia as well as native Australian species. These days, the large number of mature deciduous European trees provide a spectacular contrast to the evergreen native Eucalypts and tree ferns. The film was captured using a Sony DVD201E camera in 16:9 aspect ratio Standard Definition PAL and was post-processed using Adobe Premiere Elements 3. O’Neil’s method of creating his works is similar to that of musicians sampling sounds to create their compositions. O’Neil appropriates images, often times using amateur photos or images from instruction manuals as sources. The reproduced image is then washed with new color to create monochrome layers juxtaposed with other images. O’Neil’s method is reflected in the title of his first solo exhibit at K&W, “Collect. Consume. Rebuild.” These colorful and emotional paintings have a storytelling quality that relates a narrative, yet still remain poetic, allowing the viewer to determine their interpretation. 'Collect. Consume. Rebuild' opens May 8 at Kelly & Weber Fine Art.

In this video you'll see beautiful coastal shots, a humungous sand dune hill, bikini's, surfers and BigD1971 himself. Also, check out BigD1971's version of this trip at: vimeo.com On a learning level: I forgot my Focusing Stick but did some manual shots. I forgot My Vimeo Rubber Band but still did a pan. Didn't notice the speck on my lense until the END of the day at Zuma Beach. What fun we had, stopping and filming whatever, wherever and for as long as we wanted. What's next??
