  I agree, I think number 3 is the best.
  
  I don't know if it's possible to do, but maybe when there aren't any people in the shot, could you add heat distortion?
  
  The only thing I can think of about the lights if you can't get a generator, is to get some big boards covered in reflective material and reflect the light from the sky on to the subject.
  
  Good work though, I can't wait to see the finished film!
