Hi Everyone! Thank you for looking at my profile.

I'm planning to use this account to post some family videos to share with friends, but also to help the community by capturing ultra-high quality rendering of various demos.

I grew up on that stuff and I think it would be a shame if the scene disappeared. By publishing HD versions of modern (and not so modern) demos, I feel we can generate interest in the younger generation and show that quality, high performance code indeed mixes very well with art.

The truth though, is that I'm just trying to justify buying a Q6600 by encoding anything I can find @ 6.5mbps minimum :) (j/k)

I don't care much for the political angle of it but this is very well produced, expecially the first half with the satellite. Very nicely done :) from 1:54 and onwards it kinda lost my interest because of the angle of the globe, which didn't have as much impact as the first minute. I'm adding a 'like' to this :)

I got a quad core q6600 g0 stepping, 2 gigs of ballistic tracer ram, and a geforce 8800GT with 512meg of video ram. I regularly play 1080p vids in x264 format on that box without an issue. But - UG is right, that video they have just won't play. It's slow, drops frames and everything. I suspect a flash-related issue (flash is a memory and cpu hog anyway). So.... looks like 1080p isn't ready for primetime online, at least not when delivered via flash. It's also important to note that because of the compression, the 1080p stream didn't look any better than the 720p one. Still, I'd like to be able to pay to remove the upload limit on vimeo :)

Interesting that someone made that comment - I thought of the same thing myself when I first join. I think it's due to the fact that Vimeo is 100% UGC. If the place became a slugfest then it would quickly lose it's interest in regards to content publishers. You don't have that problem on Videosift or Youtube because if you tell someone his sift or his (pirated) video is crap it won't really affect anything - it's not 'THEIR' video. I think the untold rule of Vimeo is 'say something nice or don't say anything'. It's a bit more like the real world that way - and I quite like it. Hey I could use some flattery myself :)

Techcrunch story: http://tinyurl.com/2etemu , in a nutshell someone else is offering 720p AND 1080p video (1gb per file max limit) upload for at 35usd/year. Personally I still prefer vimeo (better interface, better community, better everything), but come on, let us pay you already :)

You could mounting the pod to a non-rotating part of the bike - then use a software image stabilizer. They work great on this type of rapid, staccato movement. Check out 'munster by bike' on tinyurl.com/28mm5a

    Good luck!

Interesting use of the Gorillapod. I'm thinking of getting one but I'm worried about how short it is.
