×Video encoding is running slowly right now. You can keep uploading, but it may be awhile before it converts. We apologize for the inconvenience!

New Features

Now you can share your videos on Twitter! Just click the Share icon in a video to launch the Share module.
  • Channel Notifications
Channel owners now have a new section in their channel settings to optionally receive emails for when someone posts a message to their shoutbox and for when someone subscribes to their channel. Adding moderators to your channel also now has an approval process, where both parties will receive emails when the request happens, and when the request is approved.
  • People Subscribed To Me
There is now a new page within your My Contacts where you can see what users are subscribed to you and what they are subscribed to (likes, videos, and/or appearances).
  • Featured videos for your group
Have any videos you want to show off in your group? You can easily add any 3 group videos to feature on your group homepage.
  • Featured videos on your profile page
Have any videos you want to show off on your profile page? You can easily add any of your 3 public videos to feature on your profile page. Try it now.
  • Removing Video Thumbnails
Everytime you upload a video, you get 12 thumbnails to choose from. Now, a month from the day you upload your video, we will automatically remove any unused thumbnails. But you will always be able to upload your own.
  • Improved Searching
We've been waiting for this. The toolbar search is now much more accurate.
  • Login and Join Vimeo Lightbox
Clicking on most login and join links will now trigger a lightbox overlay where you can quickly login or join Vimeo and stay on your current page.
  • Better referrer statistics
Now we record every page that videos get embeded on, check it out in the stats section to the right of any video page.
Everyone says they hate it, but everyone has a MySpace profile! We've added MySpace to the Sharing options.
  • Badge additions

You can now receive a daily email full of what's happening in your Vimeo world. Sign up is located in your notifications settings.
  • Converting time during transcoding
Ted and Casey added a nifty little feature that will display the time remaining to convert your video during uploads.
  • New Hubnut Behavoir
From now on, the Hubnut will not auto-rotate when it is loaded on a page. This will only affect all newly created Hubnuts, not those that are currently used on other sites.
  • Search Channels
Now you can FINALLY search for Channels. Use the 'Search' box in the top navigation bar, make sure its set on 'Channels', and search away!
  • Posting to Flickr
It's back! You can once again post your videos to Flickr. You can also post albums. Do this by clicking on Share and navigating to the "Post this..." tab.
  • Expanded Tag Browsing
Clicking a tag from a video will bring you to an improved tag browsing experience. Now you can browse videos with that tag in your videos, all videos, your contacts' videos and more. Vimeo members who use that tag most are also noted.
  • New Avatar Feature
Clicking any "avatar" aka user portrait will bring up a menu of actions you can take regarding that user. Use this menu to add contacts, subscribe to videos, and send messages to users you see on Vimeo
  • Spam Filters
We've recently rolled out some great new spam filters that we think will help keep spammers off of Vimeo. Of course its impossible to stop ALL spammers, so if you ever see any send an email to Help@vimeo.com and we'll take care of it.
  • Add Multiple Email Addresses
Now you can add multiple email addresses to your account and then sign in with any of them using the same password. Just set one as your main address, verify it after we send you an email, and you're all set.
  • UPDATE 2:50pm: We're back on!

So we've been getting slammed with uploads the last few days (breaking all sorts of records) and a bunch of you are experiencing various issues. Sometimes the clip fails, sometimes our air traffic controllers place your clip in a 'Holding Pattern', sometimes the clip just doesn't convert.

First off, sorry for all the trouble. We know how important your videos are and we're working hard to fix these issues.

For the next few hours we are going to turn off uploads while we sacrifice a few more goats and add a few more hamsters to the wheel. We don't anticipate this shutdown to be too long, so check back in a few hours.

If you are having trouble with a clip currently in the system, please post a thread here and we'll take a look.

Again, thanks for all your patience, we'll get things back to normal soon!

Note: In about two weeks we will be adding a bunch of new transcoding machines, so these current wait times will be a thing of the past!

    • OH NO NOT THE GOATS.....

      poor hamsters.

No way. You mean in a couple weeks, this site will actually work?

Turning off uploads doesn't really change anything...it took hours to convert even a tiny video anyway. Anyone who's tried to upload anything on this site in the past couple months is already accustomed to abhorrently long wait times.

Thanks for the nice comment, glad you appreciate our free service.
    • Retchy 1 year ago
In fairness though, the world might ACTUALLY end if we can't get our videos up in less than 10 minutes :)
    • rhy 1 year ago
I've used several video-sharing sites. Yours is by far the best-looking, but probably least useful one of them -- based on the wait times, upload errors, and broken "groups" system.

I guess I'm being a dick about it because I've come to expect a certain standard from video-sharing sites and vimeo hasn't met it. I'd gladly trade vimeo's beautiful interface for something more functional.

Ok, I'm done being a dick. I hope everything gets fixed soon because I see great potential here.
    • Caroline Martin 1 year ago
      Rhy,

To say Vimeo has "potential" is essentially minimizing the years of work and success this website has had.

If you have come to expect something better from video-sharing sites, then why have you decided to come here? You, along with thousands of other new users -- the ones that came here from other video-sharing sites for one reason or another -- are clogging up the intertubes and causing these "abhorrently long wait times." And you know what? We love that you're here.

We love that you're contributing to our community and making Vimeo a success. But you are new here and you need to learn how things work. Here's a handy guide.

Quick Guide to Vimeo Community Standards:
      1. Be nice.
      2. You can be critical, but you need to be constructive.
      3. If you hurt Vimeo's feelings, it will not go unnoticed.

This is not YouTube. The community is founded on creativity and support and transparency. It's a beautiful, hidden creature, but it is impossible to keep great things hidden for long.

Vimeo may never go back to the golden era of 10 minute uploads, but it will get back to a very reasonable rate and as soon as possible because they love us. And we love them.

Try uploading earlier in the day. I find around noon EST is when things are moving fastest. Welcome to Vimeo.

"If you have come to expect something better from video-sharing sites, then why have you decided to come here?"

Because some lame Dutchman thought it would be a good idea to have our online video contest on vimeo.
    • Firstgiving plus 1 year ago
      Hey, Rhy,
Can you suggest some other video-sharing sites that work better, as you said in your post?

      thanks.
    • Galen Bennett 1 year ago
YouTube? HAHA, right... if you want to sacrifice every bit of video quality for a 'fast' upload. Though it sounds like you might like it better there rhy, sadly. It's too bad we live in a world where everyone seems to expect instant gratification all the time for everything. Didn't your parents ever teach you that patience is a virtue?

Honestly though, is it really that hard to start your upload and find something else to do? Go for a freaking walk or find some people to converse with or SOMETHING. You don't have to sit there smashing your head against the keyboard for every minute your video hasn't come online. Geez.
    • Fabián Aguirre plus 1 year ago
Ha... sounds like someone needs some attention.

Not only is Vimeo a breakthrough in high quality video playback and online delivery, but it's also free. Rhy, like many of us, may not understand the technical ramifications involving the processing of such high quality media (thank you, Vimeo Team, for doing the dirty work for us), but until you see your videos online in a way that has never been accomplished before (without going through the pain of hosting, and paying for, your own space online)-- and when your hard work is finally displayed as it was meant to be seen (after an agonizing couple of hours of head-on-keyboard smashing action), that's when you begin to ask yourself how it is that you made it through without Vimeo for so long.

I, for one, recognize Vimeo's dedication and commitment to quality and advancement. People who complain about upload times after having used "other" video-sharing sites are like the spoiled kids who got an iPod for Christmas and later stormed into the Apple Store demanding a refund because putting music in it was "too hard" or "took longer" than their ugly Zune, which actually broke after a month.

Thanks for the hard work, Vimeo.

Thank you for the kind words!
    • The wait times are through the roof at the moment but you have to understand, the Vimeo guys are working at it. I know what it's like for people to criticise when you're site doesn't work, that's why my own company researched web hosts well after being battered by digg and wired.

Vimeo, you guys are doing a great job. Truly, vimeo is the best online video service to date (especially since Stage6 died). How long until Google tries to buy you?
    • rhy 1 year ago
IAC Interactive (a 6+ billion dollar company) owns vimeo. Google would have to buy IAC -- ain't gonna happen.

I've also had my problems with uploading & conversion here. A few hours conversion time is no problem for me, my own machine is already crunching the full night on it.

What makes vimeo for me is the HD support and the excellent service when things fail. Post the issue and things usually are resolved quickly.

Hey, never really had any issues so far with Vimeo and love the look of the site and no, I would not gladly trade a crappy, cluttered look for functionality. As things are it works well for me (apart from today but that was explained very well so no probs) and it looks nice. May have something to do with the fact I'm a Mac user and used to clean, functional, uncluttered interfaces.

Hope you guys can sort out the growing pains and keep making vimeo even more beautiful and functional.

So i'm trying to upload my first video, but now, after the maintenance hours are over, the video finally was uploaded, but it hangs on "converting". Is it normal? Or the maintenance hasn't helped?

Uploads were down for a while? Big Deal! I can wait!

When I uploaded my last video, the only upload that worked was babyface. I fell asleep sometime during the upload, and when I woke up, there was no sign of the video. Oh well, at least the regular site was then working. It took about 5 hours to upload, wait, transcode and then appear online, and the results were excellent. Since then, I've been responsible for people schlepping gigabytes of pixels through the tubes, and they have all said what a great site this is.

      Thanks for your hard work!

Hello. I believe you have a problem on the uplaod. This is not because of your scrpt. It's beacuse of the SWF Upload js.

It looks like, when I uplaod a file that is over the limit (ex 600 MB) it shows me a error and when I pick a smaller file, the scrip starts uplading me the big one. You can delete this message if you don't whant others to find out this.
