museum of outdoor arts

Another 50 second snap shot video. This features a current exhibit at one of the Museum of Outdoor Arts venues, Samson Park. The artists name is Patrick Dougherty the exhibit is called "Stick Works."

Its a sublime moment in an odd office park like setting. Its worth the drive to check out. moaonline.org/exhibitions.php

The walking tour

Veggie Tables

For 10 years, Watercourse foods has brought Denver what it calls "vegetarian comfort food". What exactly that means will be up to you but if you give it a go, I think you'll be surprised.

I was pleased to say that the herbivore lifestyle left nothing lacking for taste at this eatery. Though I'm too much of a meat eater to part ways with it, I have to say that if you're going to go vegan, go to Watercourse.

Even if you don't care either way its just really good food. To sweeten the deal they offer really good behind the counter baked goods as well.

The music is a cover of a Carpenters song by 4 non blondes, it seemed to fit the mood.

Building buildings

Anyone visiting Denver right now is going to notice an bevy of construction cranes. They are everywhere and the amount of construction going on now is phenomenal. The cityscape is changing in realtime.

For a good pulse on all that construction check out denverinfill.com. This site is a great resource of information and sometimes speculation as to what going on with all those cranes. The blog is a fun read to and has a lively discussion board.

The secret gardens

Centennial Gardens are located at 1100 Little Raven next to Elitch Gardens, which really isn't a garden but an amusement park.

The Centennial Gardens takes its design cues from the parterre Gardens of Versailles. The best thing about this park is nobody knows about it, so if you need a quiet place to relax in the city stroll on over. Besides all that its free to visit.

The park is not lush but features native plants that endure Denver's arid climate and requires little water. So its as smart as it is beautiful and changes with the seasons. Not bad for an area that used to be a car crushing plant on the Platte river.

East High School

A grand Jacobean style building, East High School, graces the right side of City Park. Built in 1924 by a local Denver architect, George Herbard Williamson, a former grad of East High (class of 1893). The building was part of Denver's "City Beautiful" campaign in the 1920s.

This building is as beautiful inside as it is outside. The library was recently restored to its former glory and includes book cases built by current students in shop class that match the original cases.

The music is by Gorillaz and for laughs its what I would have had on my ipod if i was currently attending this stately hall of knowledge.

After doing some thinking about this site I decided to focus videos that are more denver centric, at least within the Denver Metro area.

The idea is to show things that you could access via light rail, bus, bike or are a short car ride. So the Colorado Springs entries have been edited from Denvergence for now and maybe will join and everything else category later.

Does any of this matter, well no. Since it is a Denver based channel though I wanted to keep it focused on that. [less]

I hope to jump into the future and purchase an HD camera. I am absolutely hooked on this new hobby of video making and I have seen the amazingness that is High Definition and I can't wait to get on that buss.

Till then my little sony cam is going to have to suffice. I have been working with a tripod of late and that has helped cure some of my shaky hand held shots, now I will graduate to watching the level on the tripod and shoot strait. Sorry for the evil angles.

I have to thank vimeo for creating an amazing place for video makers, amateur and professional. I of course put myself firmly in the first column. Still I have learned a lot so far by watching the work posted on this site.

If you have the time visit other channels or just look at the staff picks. The HD channels on Vimeo are amazing and there is so much brilliant work out there that makes my camera work look ridiculous. Still its really inspiring and I hope each of my videos gets a little better with each new addition to this blog.

So I say all that to say this, Thanks Vimeo! [less]

Thanks everyone for viewing and adding comments. Its great to hear people are enjoying the site. I have been out of town briefly but will have a few more videos up this week.

A friend of mine gave me some good advice on all this and I am going to be posting as much as I can but taking my time about it and keep doing what I find interesting. That said a few of these may be more artsy in focus but will all be centered around the muse of Denver the city.
