Derek Lee started off with a simple HI-8 Camcorder owned by his father, after he got hold of it he couldn't let go. He started off by making short stop motion videos that his whole family would enjoy, after that he made his first short film called "Totally Spies" when he was only 11 years old and followed up with his second short film called "Best Friends Forever" where he used his CD Player Headphones to add music to the movie where he would need to pause it after finishing filming a scene and then hitting play again to film another scene, so the music was synced with the film since he was unable to edit his videos.

After creating those videos he started thinking about his own Production Company and so "Black and White Pictures" was born. When he knew he couldn't edit his videos with a Hi-8 Camcorder he started saving money to get his own Digital Camera. Derek would always listen to music and make up the video on his mind, he also does this to get away from stress or any other problems he may have. He created his own therapy.

After that he started practicing by making short films with his dog and brother which is when he started editing for the first time on his Computer. Now Derek AKA The Dero has made more than 60 Videos for friends and Independent Companies such as Xeoka Co. which is owned by his best friend Giancarlo Canales. Derek's video skills and styles have slowly become more abstract and interesting.

Now going to College after finishing his Senior year in the only Film School in Puerto Rico, Juan Jose Osuna he wishes to explore more of the Filmmaking world and share his unique abstract style with different people.

His father Cernis Gonzalez being a Graphic Designer suggested him to get a Macintosh so he can have a better editing environment and more reliable software so he got one after almost 4 years of waiting. He currently edits his videos on his New iMac which runs Final Cut surprisingly well, but he used to edit on a 7 year old PC running Sony Vegas that at least helped get his job done. Derek's mom Gema Rodriguez has always been on his side supporting him on everything he does and has helped him on several projects as a Producer.

Now Derek is currently working in Freelance and still learning new ways to experiment with his videos; influenced by one of the worlds most creative Directors such as Michel Gondry, Pedro Almodóvar, Alfonso Cuaron, Alejandro Gonzalez and J.J. Abrams.

He has gotten to where he is and what he is....alone.... We can only hope the best for Dero as he follows his dream of being an unique Filmmaker and Video Editor in the near future....
