Wow. What a bummer! http://www.vimeo.com/forums/topic:16808 From a Vimeo staffer: "i don't think vimeo will support it anytime soon."

Consider this a last gasp of a Vimeo user who loves the site, the service, the community. However, the lack of closed captioning / subtitle functionality is causing me (and others) to move to other video sites. Accessibility: As a university representative, I have a responsibility to create accessible videos with captions. All of my videos for work need to be captioned due to Section 508 requirements. Users with auditory impairments cannot enjoy videos on Vimeo. Why is Vimeo excluding folks from the Vimeo community? Languages: The demand is high for multi-language subtitle support. A video producer in any language would benefit from being able to present their content to multiple audiences. Business / Making Money: It makes sense from a business perspective that Vimeo would implement captioning/subtitles due to the fact that it's good for business. Being inaccessible and non-supportive of multi-language subtitles is bad for business. I do not want to transition to YouTube. I think that their service is sub-par to Vimeo in every way except for their support for captioning. Are closed captions / sub-titles in the near future for Vimeo? I don't want to leave, but I may have no alternative.
