My latest for the 365minutes Project at vimeo.com/three65minutes

Yes, another rant about the Mighty Mouse. I like it, I really do. It's just trying to keep the ball clean... it seems like an impossible task.

Certainly the genius minds at Apple design (and I say genius with the utmost respect, sincerity and fanboyedness ) would have wondered about cleaning this thing.

As long as you perform this simple mind-numbing task each and every week, your Mighty Mouse will work. If you miss just one week... God help you.

This is a screen grab of a cool service I stumbled on the other day. Amaztype: A Typographical Book Search.

Apparently, they are using the Amazon Web Services. I just thought this service was too cool to just re-blog a screenshot on my Tumblr. I decided a little ScreenFlow action would be nice - did a search for books on CSS.

It's mesmerizing... I find myself just watching it...
The search I ran: http://amaztype.tha.jp/UK/Books/Title?q=css
Run your own search: http://amaztype.tha.jp/

A super-contrasty-drama-style-black&amp;white "Mac pron" version of the missing keys on my MacBook Pro.

Last week I broke some keys off my keyboard while cleaning. The keyboard was serviced by the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store the very next day. So, every thing's cool now, the keys are fixed. Like I said - this was recorded last week - so chill.

I play on two APA (American Poolplayers Association) teams; one is 9-ball, the other 8. This is a minute showing an average Tuesday night playing 8-ball. It's kinda like looking over my shoulder from an Internet distance.

For the 365minutes Project vimeo.com/three65minutes

@Tian - Getting you something uncompressed just became too hard [See related post vimeo.com/813153]. So, I tried to keep the clip full size, but iMovie will not de-interlace full size HD (1920x1080), so 720 will have to do. All these clips are in low light conditions - hope this helps with your camera comparisons.

Every year, many people around the globe color eggs for easter and hide them outside for the kids to find. Obviously, the egg represents a new beginning - similar to the resurrection of Christ, for which the holiday was created. It's the Easter Bunny part I still don't get.

Happy Easter Everybody!

A minute for the 365minutes project. In this minute, I travel my 40 minute commute to work and stop for gas. It was kinda foggy this morning - looks dreamy.

vimeo.com/three65minutes

By the way, a 40 minute commute represents more data than will fit on a 4GB SD card. I ran out of room about 1.5 miles from my office. Having to go to the stupid gas station cost me almost 5 minutes!

Recorded with my HDC-SD1 attached to a new ClamperPod (photo's below). It's a handy little camera mount you can clamp on stuff. In this case, it's clamped onto the passenger "Oh, sh*t" bar in the Jeep. [All the photos were shot with the SD1 using the remote]

A minute for the 365minutes project.
http://www.vimeo.com/three65minutes

This video was not produced with this project in mind, but it fit the bill (loosely), so I decided to use it for my first minute. This is kind of a big project - a little daunting, but it should be fun.

Photos: by my wife - she is getting pretty darn good! Music: Sigur Ros, Untitled #8.

Note: If you're interested, but intimidated by the shear size of such a project, try "52minutes" instead: only a 1 minute video each week for a year. http://www.vimeo.com/forums/topic:4454

These shots were put together to test whether "Night Scene Mode" should be used on your consumer camera. Based on the results, I say neigh. However, my camera (HDC-SD1) has good size chips and does a real nice job on low light scenes automagically. Watch for the *ON/*OFF indications in the video for a visual cue.

I had to add the little bit at the end because the plane fly by was perfectly timed with the ad reveal on the billboard - I just thought that was cool. Stay classy, San Diego.

My wife and I had a nice afternoon at the maritime museum in San Diego Bay. She likes to talk to me while I am filming... she is so much fun.

Featuring these historic ships:

Star of India - The Star of India is the world's oldest active ship. She began her life on the stocks at Ramsey Shipyard in the Isle of Man in 1863. Iron ships were experiments of sorts then, with most vessels still being built of wood.

HMS Surprise - Strike a pose at the helm of HMS. Surprise just like Russell Crowe as Captain "Lucky Jack Aubrey." The ship used in the academy award winning film, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World found a permanent home at the Maritime Museum of San Diego in 2004. HMS Surprise is a magnificent replica of an 18th century Royal Navy frigate.

B-39 Soviet Attack Submarine - One of a fleet of diesel electric submarines the Soviet Navy called “Project 641." 300 feet in length and displacing more than 2000 tons, B-39 is among the largest conventionally powered submarines ever built.

My wife and I had a great day hanging out in downtown San Diego. We like to "people watch" and ended up sitting for awhile at the MTS station @ the Museum of Contemporary Art - mcasd.org.

Make sure to listen for my wonderful wife's commentary... she cracks me up. My two favorites: (00:55) - she asks "how do you push play" and grabs the camera while I am recording - and (03:22) she comments on how the homeless have to deal with so many bags. (please don't take this out of context, she loves everything and everyone)

I saw the dusty camera bag in the corner and decided to finally pack it away in the closet until the next time I decide to use film. This is my goodbye - for now...

Footage from a leisurely walk down by the Oceanside pier - sure glad I did. If you stop and soak in your surroundings once in awhile there is always beauty to be found. Of course, finding beauty in San Diego is easy. I love Southern California - this was in January!

I just don't understand the human need to gawk in traffic. Is it so hard to just keep your eyes on the road and drive on by? It's always safer for everyone if you keep moving.

Seriously, it's a car or a fender bender or a tow truck or a police officer. Please, look forward and drive - let's all just let it go.

Based on the recommendation of Apple during the iMovie 08 announcement awhile back, I purchased the Panasonic HDC-SD1. Unfortunately, iMovie 08 does not recognize the 5.1 Digital Surround Sound audio recorded with the on camera mic. It imports a full right channel along with a 10% left channel based on center... I think. Arrg.

I should have expected a different language on the remote - I saved two hundred bucks on the purchase from Broadway Photo in New York. Most likely, the camera is a "gray market" item. All the packaging seemed re-used and the instruction manual is still on "back order". Oh well, I got a big discount.

I created this sarcastic rant just to share my audio nightmare with vimeo.

Update: A recent update to iMovie 08 fixed the audio nightmare, so all is right with the world. Yay!<br /><br />

I was hoping for some action - but the spider wouldn't even move - let alone eat some poor little defenseless flying critter. The last two clips use a tri-pod - much better to watch (duh).
